I noticed there have been a lot of threads about people's Brembos(18Z/17Z/RS6), lets consolidate and have a mega-thread of sexy big brakes
[drool]

I will post with pictures of mine this weekend, my friend is bringing them back with him when he comes to town Saturday.[evilsmile]

probably going to have to redo the piston seats since he powdered over them, but I was kind expecting that

Random tidbit of information, but the RS4 8 piston calipers are barely more expensive than the Cayenne 6 piston calipers, when purchased new.

The difference being Cayenne calipers are far easier to find used of course. But if you're buying new from the dealer, they actually aren't all that expensive.

But why did you powdercoat over the pistons?! Guy didn't throw some tape on em?

Looks great though. I'm jealous of everyone's beautiful calipers; I just spray painted mine and I'm lazy.

Good point Max. I think the issue is cost of rs6 rotors vs Mercedes ones. I could be wrong though. Why not pc your cals.....makes a big difference.

Just alittle info, the rs6 calipers aren't that heavy for their size but the rotors on the other hand seem to weigh 2-3 times the caliper.

Curious ...how much are new rs calipers? Because you can get new treg calipers for about 430/ea

I told my friend I was planning to rebuild them after he coated them, I think he thought I meant pistons and seals, not just seals . I don't think it will hurt anything to have powder on the piston faces though. I might have to ream the mounting holes though, he didn't mask them off.
Like I said, they might not be perfect, but for the price I'm happy.

They just cant let their stuff go, they put their name all over everything. The powder coating place said they blasted it down to bare aluminum but after coating it still showed.

Really? I dropped weight by switching to lightweight 18"s from the OEM heavy-as-all-getout 16"s.

Any good PC shop can do it. Break them down using a compressor and some wood blocks or rubber clamps. You can isolate 3 pistons at a time using the bleeder caps and removing the crossover which helps. Then drop them off to blast and coat. While they are apart, buy new seals and boots (Centric has a kit) and then lube and re-assemble...done. If you habe 17 or 18Z's, part numbers for everything are in my sig.

I have 18zs, and i guess i'd prefer to send them to someone who has experience doing 17z/18z rebuilds and refinishing

I have never touched a caliper before I did mine. As long as you have an air compressor and nozzle tip, you can take them apart. Putting them back together is a breeze too. soak seals in brake fluid then put one in each hole. Put piston boot on each piston with the help of some brake fluid, insert each piston into the hole by lining it up perfectly and using some even force....done. I say that, but I outsource a of easy items too. I just tackled this one myself because I wanted to make sure no one else chipped my PC :)
