I don't see how they can even be installed after the fact. How do they even attach? I was assuming it was a factory thing, that they must actually go through the roof.

yeah its a factory option, I will check the order slip if you need the code, but then again it might not be the same code in the US...

I have them for sale with all necessary hardware. There is no modification needed.

I'll go take pics tomorrow. I'll get detailed pics of the S-line. (check on bumper prices too)

I got pics today, but they are useless. Tomorrow a tech is going to explain to me how they install. I'll do a complete write-up.

Unfortunately, this had better be a mod you plan on sticking with. The roof runners have 4 studs on each side very similar to the Ultrasport rear spoiler. Proper installation involves drilling four holes per side, then dropping the headliner and fastening with the locking nuts and sealing washers provided. The service tech said you can also lop them off with a die grinder and affix with moulding tape. The rails are mostly cosmetic.

He also mentioned that drilling holes in not uncommon, most people add these types of things on at the time of purchase.

I have an A3 with optional roof rails on 3 months lead time from the factory. Audi has only just managed to get its act together on the accessory roof bars, I saw them at my dealers about 2 weeks ago, priced at £180 ($325). The bars I saw were also fitted with a bike carrier at additional cost.

If you want to use the roof rails for load carrying, I just have a feeling that double sided sticky tape is a bad idea...

And when you come to sell your beloved A3, be sure to remove your stick-ons, otherwise you may find yourself in court when the new owner's bike falls off on the freeway, complete with the roof rails...
