Hey guys I know this subject has been beaten so many times and I read about 20-30 threads to see if anyone was in the same situation but couldn't really come up with anything good.
So got this 2006 B7 about a month ago with 124xxx on the clock and only drove it about 700 in about 10 days then put in my garage and started my usual maintenance that I do on any used car I get to make sure I am driving a reliable car that won't disappoint me. Car drove fine but I felt a little bit of power loss especially at 0-10mph. The engine has a very slight roughness at idle but it's really hard for me to tell what rough idle really is on a a 2.0t. Car had no CEL or any other lights. So I started some maintenance, Checked filter, fluids....etc. Then decided to put a straight pipe in and while in the process I found that my flex pipe was messed up so I ordered a full exhaust and waited for it. I installed the exhaust this weekend and all is good. At this point I was still thinking of what I could check on this car that usually causes problems and needs maintenance...you guessed it. I pulled my HPFP and found the dreaded busted cam follower in pretty bad shape. Here is the picture:

As you can see the cam follower needs to e replaced. The cam lobe feels smooth to the touch but can't really tell how bad it is damaged. Looking at the follower I think the cam lobe isn't too healthy either and will at least cause the new follower to wear out prematurely. The HPFP doesn't look like it's damaged as far as I can tell.
No CEL was ever on and really no major issues with the car so far. However I pulled fault codes and came up with the following:
008801 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249): Mechanical Malfunction
P2261 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
000769 - Cylinder 1: Misfire Detected
P0301 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
004243 - Bank 1; Fuel Measuring System 2: Malfunction
P1093 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
I know that the extended warranty for the cam follower / cam shaft / HPFP is until 120,000 Miles/Ten years (useless to most ppl). Clearly the previous owner didn't take this to a dealer to inspect the cam follower and the dealer probably wouldn't have done anything about it if there was no CEL. Obviously 124,000>120,000 however I feel that just because previous owner didn't know about he problem/ didn't take care of it at the right time, Audi should still fix the problems caused but the car they made that destroys itself. I have no problem just replacing the cam follower but i will not go through the trouble or expense of changing the cam shaft. I don't know if i have the A or B version of the shaft. I am not sure if you can replace the lobe part only on the B version of the shaft either.
I really need to get my car back on the road and don't want to waste any more time on this. I need to know if i should put the car back together and drive it to the dealer and hope that I can convince them to cover this under warranty even though I am over the miles. Or if should just replace the follower and hope that it doesn't wear out too fast and just keep checking on it like every 6 months. After all, we all know this wear on the cam follower that I have didn't happen in the past 4,000 miles. What do you guys think?
