Well last night i decided to install of 034 motorsports turbo inlet pipe. Over install is super easy. Remove old put in new.

My opinion on the piece is pretty straight forward. They should have took the time to center the 034 logo on the top of the hose it is a liitle off to the left. almost pointing at the fender. Overall not really a noticable gain. But does sound better i think. Maybe some midrange power with possible quicker turbo spool but not very noticable. overall a nice silcone hose to get rid of that factory ugly poor designed piece. I give it a thumbs up.

TBH I don't think it does anything. I mean alot of manufacturers come on here and say that our ribbed hose is in danger of collapsing, but we have never seen one hose collapse. It's aesthetics but then again aesthetics are what make this car look so good [cool]

It's because they used to on the 1.8t. I don't think they have much if an issue on the 2.0 because its much stiffer and doesn't have the elbow like the tip on the 1.8t.

How do we know that the OEM pipe flexed under boost? Did someone see it on a dyno or was there an engine bay camera to capture this phenomenon?

I should note that I upgraded mine as well. I'm just wondering.

if you where tuned I could see the turbo asking for to much air from the stock hose at full boost. also a clogged prefilter or air filter could cause this also. whither that said proper maintenance of air filter and prefilter chances are it would never collapse. but why wouldn't you want a piece that is smoother flowing with less restriction. the corrugated hose is a airflow mess any way you look at it.

Yeah a super old hose on a heavily modded vehicle with a large turbo, could possibly cause some issues. But as most others say if anything it looks nicer and those ugly hoses are a nice thing to replace if you are looking to clean up your engine bay! Aesthetics are really the main reason I purchased one, but any additional effects it has is just above my expectations at that point lol

Make time when you can, one of the better mods to do for the money after a chip/flash. Really made a difference on mine you could hear and feel.

I had my hose collapse on 19 pounds of boost on a ko3. It can happen

To add input to this thread, throw a k&n come filter on your MAF and a heat shield.. cheap cold air, improved performance and a much better sound

with a tune, and turboback exhaust I noticed the throttle is a bit more responsive.

I noticed a stronger mid range and a 2-3 mpg increase in fuel milage.

with just the swap in of the TIP or combined with other mods? If just TIP...what other mods were installed at the time?

No. Show me performance gains that aren't in your head and I'll show you santa claus.

Not true

Agreed.

Colder air? Not unless you have a VERY good heat-shield. Much better sound is subjective. I already addressed the performance claim.

Yup, besides the intake pipe that is.
Eric

EDIT
I should have mentioned that I started putting 2 gal of 89 octane in the tank at each fill up. So the changes could be from that too.

Ok, all jokes aside. The stock pipes are crap and upgrading to a solid silicone setup is good form. If the stock materials are intact, you will see zero difference in performance from this upgrade. However, and like I said, those stock tubes and clamps are crap and need to go sometime.

Yup. Especially if you're pushing around 20psi. the stock boot if perfectly fine for stock boost (until it degrades enough that it rips) but at higher boost levels, the rubber often can't handle the increased suction and collapses. this can be seen as wild boost fluctuations when it hits peak boost. Easy to spot if you have a boost gauge.

Silicone pipes collapse as well, and I have watched it happen on the dyno. Pipe collapse has more to do with the filter then the pipe itself ... or the balance between the two. If your filter is not allowing enough flow for the turbo/engine, the pipe collapses under vacuum.

Collapse? On a 2.0T? Stock or aftermerket TIP?

yes...we get it you currently have a lot of mods. but that doesn't mean you had them all when you perceived the claimed benefits [rolleyes]
