I recently purchased a symphony II+ radio and harness from another audizine member that had a bose system in his b6 a4. I installed the symphony II+ radio in my non-bose car last night. I'm getting no sound out of the front speakers. Rear speakers work fine though.
What do I need to do to fix this issue??
Thanks in advance

Wire it and then code it correctly with VCDS.

From what I understand the head units are the same Bose/non-Bose so if that is true there should be no issue just plug and play. Unless the head unit is bad or someone mess with the factory harness.
Actually I just noticed that this was a II+ you installed and I'm not sure if the harness is the same?

While you are correct in that the head units are the same, the OP needs to do what dcc236 wrote and code his car correctly using VCDS. In non-Bose cars only the rear speakers are amplified, he needs to code the car for non-Bose Symphony II+ to get sound out of the front speakers.

OK cool, I'm a knob tiring to learn Audi systems myself and don't even know what VCDS is, but guessing it's a factory type programming device.
So I have a symphony II on it's way to me from another member and it wasn't a Bose set-up and my car is, guessing I need to do the same type coding on mine???
Thx for the help!

VCDS = VAG COM Diagnostic System, most people just refer to it as VAG-COM. Yes, you will have to do similar coding on yours when your new Symphony II arrives. Take a read at the instructions at Ross-Tech's website (http://www.ross-tech.com/index.html). I am not sure if you need a full VAG-COM cable, or if one of the eBay cables will work for coding the stereo.

So if the radio is bose you need to code it for non bose and vice versa?

No. The Bose/ Non Bose designates the subwoofer/amp/ speaker package- while the head units are identical. You do not "need" to do any coding at all to the headunit to make it work. There are some coding options in the Symphony II+ but none are strictly required to make the stereo work.
What you need is the proper adapter harness to hook your speaker up directly to the head unit- as mentioned, the Bose system speakers are driven off the AMP in the trunk, and the NON Bose are wired directly off the headunit. You're probably missing the part of the harness that plugs into your speaker harness at the stereo.

Found this info:
Standard/Bose and other configuration modes
You can program the Symphony II radio to use either the standard or the Bose equalization setting, as well as a few other basic configurations. This requires the use of a VAG-1551, VAG-1552 or equivalent scan tool (See VAG-COM or ProDiag). Knowledge of the usage of such a scan tool is assumed.
Connect scan tool to the car's OBD-II diagnotic port.
Turn on ignition and radio, select Radio Controller in scan tool.
The radio shows "DIAG" in the display.
Select "Recode Module". You may enter a 5-digit code according to the table below. For example, "00007" is a standard setting while "00017" is a Bose setting, both with CD changer and secondary display.
Turn off radio and ignition, disconnect scan tool.
Turn on radio to hear the effects. In Bose mode, the radio display will show "BOSE" briefly after turn-on.
Digit Description
1 Country ID (0 = standard)
2 Sound Coordination (0 = standard)
3 Number of passive speakers
0 = No passive speakers (Bose)
1 = Front left (Bose with hands-free phone)
2 = Fronts passive, rears active
5 = Fronts passive, rears non-active
4 Sound System
0 = standard
1 = Bose
5 Radio Configuration
1 = No CD changer
3 = With CD changer
5 = With secondary display
7 = With CD changer and secondary display
Note: Programming the radio to run in Bose mode does not make it a Bose system if it wasn't installed at the factory as such. The Bose system also has an different external amplfier and different speakers.

He is correct. You either didn't plug something in right. Or since he had Bose the harness has no front speaker conversion. You need to either get a new harness or modify that one.

What was the problem?

The problem was the Bose harness.... Didn't have one of the right connectors. I ended up using a kufatec harness.

I am a complete DIY on everything in life but sometime it is prudent to ask for advice when I really don't have a clue.. Can I make a 2007 A4 Bose sound sys work in 2004 A4 Symphony sys. I do know that I need every piece of the Bose sys but the wiring would be VERY difficult if not impossible. Can anyone lead down this Ego path
