View Full Version : After APR Stage I.. stage II? or suspension bushings/control arms?
Hi all
I'm trying to weigh what to do next and am looking for advice from members here.
I have stage I tune from apr. The car is lowered on FSD + eibach. The ride is fine but I know these cars have issues with control arms, bushings, etc.
Do I get hi flow cat and/or exhaust and flash to stage 2? Or get all the control arms etc replaced and get a adjustable camber blah blah..
I'm up to date with maintenance.. 20k on cam follower, and dv, changed tranny fluid, brake fluid, etc recently.
Advice?

I'm sure you're familiar with this kit and deal, not sure if it's what your looking for. I recently went through the same dilemma on my B6 but decided to go with bushings etc. since I didn't see the sense of going stage II if my suspension was gone to sh!t.
Also, be sure to shop around for pricing on installation, it can vary greatly; enough that depending on where you take it or if you do it yourself you could possibly save enough to go stage II with the left overs. You'll be sure to hear "Oh, it only took me 90 minutes to do it myself" but rest assured it can be a complete nightmare to do depending.

Sort of depends on the current condition of your suspension components. Eventually, you're going to want to do it all. If it was me, I'd go with the HFC / exhaust with a tune. I'm running the H&R coils with an RS4 rear sway, the rest of the suspension is OEM. I've got 72k on the car. I'm pretty happy with the way the car handles, and as components fail, I'll replace / upgrade as needed. Good luck man!
I would take care of suspension part first.
Tune can wait and it won't damage other parts. Negative camber will screw up your fine tires and it will cost new set of tires.
There are some good adjustable arm options. 034, stern, recent SPC from blackforest. I have 034 Density adjustable arms and it's pretty nice and about $50~70 cheaper than stern.
For stage 2, get yourself high flow cat or test pipe + exhaust. It will net out nice gains.

Do suspension first
Then high flow cat, downpipe, and exhaust (custom, brand setup, whatever you prefer)
Then do stage II
I didn't follow this and its kind of pissing me off now that I'm trying to "catch up" on my mods.

Suspension. It is a maintance item. Normal before go fast. Liek other have said tires are not cheap. And bad bushings will get your tires weraring like garbage.

Basically suspension and brakes are paramount before go fast bits. Making sure you can control the car is more important and allows you to enjoy going fast that much more. Having apr your best bet is to go suspension now then when you can go hfc and hpfp. Since the only difference in tune from 1->2 is cat cel delete. 2+ is where you will actually see a tune gain and that coupled with the hfc/tp will net you a very nice gain and having a nice suspension will allow you to take full advantage of it.
But that's just my .03

Sounds like suspension / control arms and bushings are a must. I looked for FCP Groton kit and looks like everybody is happy with it. Is it really better than OEM ?
also - I do have s4 sway bar. brakes are always a good idea - i'm planning to switch from OEM pads to Akebono but I still have 30-50k to go on current pads...
