I'm trying to mount my S4 skirts, I got the velcro all set up but I can't get the holes drilled. I'm drilling between the plugs through the skirt and I keep breaking bits and screws. How the hell is this supposed to work??

forget drilling holes man use self tappers
i used a 3/8 impact gun and did each side in like 5 minutes.

yup those exactly.
i used fender washers with them.
i forget how long i went with the screws but they were pretty short. around an inch to an inch and a quarter
the black and decker should work fine. just use a socket and it makes everything 100x easier then a phillips bit (if the screw has both)

Yeah I'm using shitty wood screws. I'm going to Home Depot now to get those. Wish me luck, lets hope my drill is strong enough.

Okay I got the screws to work, now the doors are rubbing on the skirts whenever I open them and fucking up the new paint on the skirts. wtf

did you cut your door sills?
if the skirts are riding on top of them that could cause clearance issues

TConklin821

What do you mean by door sills? I don't have any lower moldings at all, the bottoms of the doors are bare, just the pegs are there. I have S4 lowers I'm putting on as well. I wonder if I put too much velcro on the car and it's making the skirt sit higher.

that....
the one pictured is of an s4 which is narrow to allow the fitment of skirts
a4 sills have to be cut (exposing the metal underneath)
i took mine right off

Ohhhh yeah I don't have those at all. But the velcro I'm using is two inches wide and it wraps around to the top where the skirt sits on the car, I think it's making the skirt sit too high and interfere with the door. I'm gonna ditch the velcro and go with 3M tape.

go with body shop tape
its expensive but once its on there its never coming off

TConklin821

Where can that be found, and where should I put it? Just on the inside of the skirt where it bends and meets up with the car? Sorry if my descriptions suck, lol. I hate this kind of work.

Good, I can wrench every damn day, and do it in shorts almost 100% of the time. No more busted cold knuckles.

Haha I put my skirts on and it was freezing out

And did the skirts come with the black plastic piece that runs the length of the skirt. This should be adhered to the car with body tape then velcroed to the skirt.

No I don't believe so. Grr.

ray4624

Well I would just use heavy duty Velcro instead of those. Try to find the all plastic stuff instead of the fabric/plastic

There is a velcro piece running up the length of the skirt, and I bought velcro at Home Depot and stuck it to the car, but I think the velcro is too much (2in wide) and I think its making the skirt sit too high and rub on the door. I might just ditch the velcro all together and use tape

double sided 3m tape will work fine. It's what the body shop used on my Z28 fender emblem. I know that because they gave me the fender and the emblem separate and I adhered it myself.

You can find it at advance auto, wal mart, etc.

Does it matter WHERE in the skirt I put the tape, anyone know?

Aye. How critical is it that I use those screws that go through the door to hold on the door moldings? Or can I just use the white clips. The old screws are broken off inside the moldings and wont come out.

The white clips, clip on to the screws...which they aren't screws they're pins or are you talking about the moldings for the fender and rear quarter? If thats the case use double sided tape. I don't think the white clips worked.

I think he means the tiny screw at the front of each molding. There is 1 screw for each that goes through the door from the inside into the molding.

I've only got 3 of 4 on mine

Yeah on the front of the doors there should be a hole where a screw goes through. Anyway, everything is done and looking pure sexy. I'll get some pix up when I can.
