Do you have a check engine light?

Do you have a check engine light?

Sorry forgot to mention. Yes. My car was doing this 6 months ago. I parked it and haven't driven it. I had a buddy come over with a vag com and we determined that the coolant temp sensor was bad so I replaced that. Cleared the codes and the car ran great and the light stayed off. A few days later the problem came back and the light is back.

A lot of things could cause that.

Any boost leaks? How do the spark plugs look?

What are the current codes?

Spark plugs are brand new. I will look into a boost leak

There are a lot of things that can cause "sputtering and lugging." No one will be able to tell you what your car needs based on that vague description.

Get your codes/CEL read.
Boost leak test.
Check spark plugs for proper gapping.
etc.

I used to get coughing during hard acceleration and WOT. I got a cone airfilter that was all clogged up with all kinds of filth. I removed it and cleaned it out, good as new. Problem solved! Don't know if this helps you but if the engine isn't getting enough air it could be a reason...

Faulty coil out of the question? These engines are pretty notorious for dropping 'em...

We had sputtering when we punched our B7 Sedan---bad coilpack.
