I have a symphony 2 radio that just won't work. I reinstalled it after selling my aftermarket unit and I think it worked briefly, but now it doesn't even turn on or light up. I think all the let rival work I did locked it out. I have 2 questions I guess.

1. Is it broken and how would I tell?
2. If its. To broken, how do I reactivity it? I don't have any code number, it came from the car.

Thanks

If it doesn't turn on at all, the fuse on teh back could have blown. When you just have the security lockout, the unti powers on, but just displays a message. If you're unit isn't even powering on it could be a fus or it could be a wire/connector on the harness fell out.

Do you have a Symphony 2 or 2+? 2+ has the one square connector called a quadlock and no tape player, 2 has a tape player and 3-4 smaller connectors in the rear.

1. Confirm the power circuit in the harness is alive with a tester light. Check the fuse on the back of the h/u is ok. Plug it in and switch on. It should prompt you for the Sec Code. You can also test it out of the car using a car battery and the wiring diagram on top of the head unit.

2. Don't bother. Buy a used one on the forums. They come up often.

It's a Symphony 2, with a tape player. The fuse on the back looks fine. I could test the power going to the harness, but I don't have my mutlimeter with me. Assuming there is power going to the harness, does that mean this unit must be dead?

Where would I get the sec code for my own unit, assuming it works? I'd hate to think there is something wrong with the wiring after what I went through (in another post).

If the fuse still looks intact, does that prove that I didn't damage the unit when the battery terminals shorted out?

If I have to replace it, they only features I need is am/fm radio and an aux audio input for my iPhone. What's the cheapest way to get that?

I'm curious about this security code thing too.
I want to install an aftermarket unit, but if i want to switch back to the factory will i run into security code problems? is there a way to get the security code from the symphony II before removing it, or can VagCom get it electronically?
