Just got the handmade non-resonated exhaust from AWE Tuning to my Q5 3.2 Quattro S-Tronic.

Here is a video for you. Hold on tight and turn up your volume!

Thanks so much to Alex at TagMotorsports and John at AWE Tuning for helping me out! I definitely recommend these guys.

Nice! Your post led me back to the AWE website, where once again I drooled over the exhaust vids. I think I'd lean toward the resonated system. Total wish-list item, as I'm not sure I'd ever really be able to justify the expense, but man does it sound great. Thanks for sharing, and congratulations!

Sounds very very nice :) Makes me want to get a good video recorder to get some clips of my exhaust ;)

Just curious, what video recorder did you use?

Canon Eos 5d Mark II :)

But I'm looking for something smaller, like a small cam I can put on my car so I can do more driving/actions videos. Not easy to drive around with a 3000 USD camera outside the car :D

You should definitely go for resonated one.
After a few days with this non-resonated exhaust, I decided to order the resonated downpipes. The drone inside the cabin is just to loud at lower rpm and when the s-tronic changes gears. As nice it sounds, you want it to be heard outside, and not ruin your easy drive to work everyday. I've been told that the resonated one will almost have the same sound outside, while eliminate the inside-drone.
I will of course post a video when I get the resonated downpipes.

I understand... but it does take good video... I'm shopping around now and hope to get something compact too... :)

Oh yes absolutely. It's a top notch video camera. I also work as a music video director, and recorded for example this video with it: (OT) ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCehv_X2JTY )

Good luck with the search! :)

Thanks for confirming the resonated version as the right choice. On the camera - the exhuast video, you used the audio from the Canon? If so....NICE.

Jerry, I used an external mic that I had lying on the ground next to the exhaust at start.

Yeah, I'm debating whether to go SLR with external mic route or go full on video cam rig which will also carry external mic. Choices choices... Still would like to keep portable though... :)

Not to keep taking this off-topic, but the quality of small mics (even tiny 'T' stereo mics with a built-in 3.5mm jack) are impressive. I do a lot of live music recording (in my real life I'm a freelance bassist, playing with any number of ensembles) and the quality is impressive. While I wish this functionality could be built-in to my DSLR, I appreciate that it's beyond the scope of design. To that end, I've found the audio quality of captures from my iPhone to be better than my Nikon D90. Wah. :) My solution is to record the audio separately, using my 24/96 handheld recorder, and then simply mate the audio track to the video. It's extra work, but not by a lot, and everything remains portable....at least by my terms.

Hehe... yea, didn't mean to get the thread off-topic... but I've seen some portable audio recorders that also have video capabilities as well (i.e.: Zoom Q3HD).. but alas the video quality won't be anywhere near what DSLRs can do nowadays. But the audio is much better than any camcorder that I can think of...

Boy, here I go, further down that road... IMO, the Zoom is HORRIBLE. Not only crappy video in anything but very bright light, but the audio algorithms they use are terrible. The best results I've gotten are choosing their 'low' setting, and then doing extensive post-manipulation in Audacity or equivalent. Their first run of portable audio recorders was really quite good, but they just seem to be venturing more and more downhill. I'm surprised the market doesn't have more options. I still count on my trusty old M-Audio Microtrack for this stuff, and I'm just hoping it holds together until something truly better comes along.

Alright...I'm done, I promise. I was curious because the audio quality on this vid really is good. As a veteran of capturing V8 domestic-US sounds, I appreciate that this isn't always easy.

Love the sound on the AWE exhaust! However, I like the sound of the Resonated version. I think it's more suitable for daily driving.

As you can read from the earlier posts in this thread, I have now ordered the resonated downpipes, cause I found the inside cabin drone just to loud. As you said, I really hope that the resonated one is better for daily driving.

Finally the resonated downpipes from AWE Tuning, are installed. As an addition to the already installed handmade non-resonated exhaust system, the car gets even more power, and there is less drone inside the cabin. The "non-resonated" version had to much drone when the car was cold, in low revs, and while going in reverse. All that is perfect mow! Less drone inside, and it sings just as beautiful outside!

I have taken some pictures how everything looks under the car:

I will record some more videos for you, to compare the sound difference (if there is any) between the resonated and the non-resonated versions.
