Hello everyone,
I'm new here, but I happen to have 2004 S4 with 98K.
I took it to drive an errand today and the car was running fine until I got on the highway. On the highway the car started to accelerate on its own without any input from gas pedal shifting in gears normally. I was able to slow it down and pulled over. Shifted to "Park", the engine went straight to 7000 RPM. I went back to drive, the engine went down to about 2000 RPM and then down to 1000 RPM. Turned it off, restarted, same thing. No CEL or anything abnormal on gauges.
So, I drove it back home braking periodically to keep the car from speeding.
I suppose it is some sort of idle control failure, but I can't find any info on anyone having similar problems, nor I have heard of anyone having this problem on S4 when I was forum browsing before. Any ideas on where to look or what to replace?
Other info: I had the car at a mechanic for compression test and backpressure tests 2 days ago, but put about 200 miles on it since, so I doubt it was caused by techs plugging and un-plugging things.
Thank you in advance for your help....
