Overall i like the clutch and its much better than my previous cars but one concern is i am finding it hard to release it smoothly at a very very slow speed , say while entering the garage you have to stop and be very careful and releasing it a slope , i feel the clutch is little jerky at these times but rest of the times i am at total ease with the clutch

Does anyone have the same observation

Thanks

Yes, I have noticed the same thing. I drove an Evo for 6 years and it felt similar with the AWD. I can even hear a little noise once and a while from it at parking lot speed when engaging/disengaging.

No problem here ... I really like the clutch in the S4.

The clutch release point is not the real problem. You need to use more gas pedal and then the release point will feel more intuitive. I struggled with the same issue. But now I just feather in more gas pedal rather then releasing more clutch pedal. Try it.

I think the easiest way to start out is to just release the clutch without touching the accelerator. The engine automatically revs up when you are releasing the clutch and all the driver needs to do is focus on releasing the clutch smoothly.

OP - When you say you are finding it hard to release the clutch smoothly at a very slow speed, how slow and what gear are you in?

On 1st gear

My driveway is sloped little high and when i enter the garage i just stop before the door to see everything is ok before i release clutch and get inside the garage, this is the time i see the minor issue , on a normal surface no issues. My BMW had a hill descent feature where the car stops for a few secs on a slope and that helped me to release clutch smoothly , i dont see this in the S4.

I will try giving more gas as Dr GP stated above, i am trying to get perfect in this scenario as i am still getting used to the clutch.

Overall i love the clutch and right from day1 i didnt have any jerky shifting. Got used to it pretty quickly unlike my BMW it took me lot of time mastering 1-2 shift

So you are coming to a complete stop in front of the garage door (which is on an up-slope) and then pulling into the garage, correct? Sounds like you might just need a little more practice with this clutch ... you'll get it.

In the mean time, your S4 has a similar feature to your old BMW. When you are stopped on a hill you can engage the emergency brake. Once you have the emergency brake engaged (which will stop you from drifting backwards) you just start out normally by releasing the clutch / depressing the accelerator. Once the clutch starts to engage, the emergency brake will automatically disengage.

Good to know , thanks for the info, helps a lot.

This works but today it was not working and emergency brake was not getting released even when I released the clutch and later realized I was not wearing seat belts, once I put my seat belts on and it started working fine, is that the safety feature built in

I am also getting lot better with the clutch in slope by giving more gas

Thanks

You can make a Vag change to remove the seatbelt requirement.

I am perfectly ok with the seat belt requirement but wanted to confirm if that was the reason why it was not working

Thanks for the responses

Why would you want to do that?

Why would you want to do that?

Possibly for the exact issue the OP was having... Moving the car out/into the garage?
