Just as the title says, is it possible to clean out the breather hose and other components?

I was looking here on Blauparts site (http://blauparts.com/audi/audi_breather_hose/audi_A6_breather_hose_crankcase_hose.shtml) and was wondering if the hoses and components are still in pretty good shape then why not try to clean them. I could use this money for the other things I need to get done on my lovely wagon [wrench]

It is possible. If you can get it off the car without breaking it (It's old, plastic and after all the heat, can be very brittle), then you can use brake cleaner to clean it out. I also used uncut simple green (I only had 1 can of brake cleaner and used it all and there was still more gunk) to finish cleaning it out. Also, rinse with hot water while cleaning to help dislodge oil residue. If you have compressed air, blow it out several times. There is also an o-ring where it connects to the Y-pipe if you have a 2.7t, if it fits a little loose, take the o-ring to home depot/Lowes or whatever you have and find one that's just a hair bigger. This helps seal the connection and increased the vacuum draw.
