Maybe the Soundkator can add in commentary like the old days, such as "fuck did I just scratch the rim, oh god am I going to make this?"

That is pretty cool.
Lots of varialbles that make this not practical - but deff forward thinking.

OBVIOUSLY Audi covers it - a sort of reverse TD1 program :)

I read that the system will only drive short distances and low speeds, basically parking lot maneuvering, no highways.
It uses the front and rear parking sensors to detect people and stop if needed.

I just want the smart phone integration. Screw the key fobs. Would love to never have to worry about a key even if I don't have to take it out of my pocket at this time.

A friend of mine is trying to program a smart card to start his BMW push to start. That would be the best option for me, just a CC I keep in my wallet that unlocks and starts the car. Bluetooth connected cell phone means you still have to wake up the car and be in range. Cellular connected means another monthly subscription (which I guess you would already have for Google Maps etc), but you have to have cell coverage where you are.

All that automated technology and she still had to press the key fob button to unlock the doors?! dafuq. [facepalm]

Wow! As impractical is that is, its pretty cool
S if it parks in the first available spot, wouldnt it always end up in a handicapped spot?

It supposed to be used in parking garages that are equipped with the "Audi Piloted Parking" technology. So all the parking spots and routes to them are mapped out and sent to the car so it would not just park in handicapped spots.
Just you watch, some a-hole is going to hack the system and drive everyone's $80,000 cars off a cliff.

That's pretty amazing tech!
+2 on the phone integration. I hate having to load my pockets with stuff before I leave the house.

...or adapt it for other illegal and nefarious purposes.

they are working on both...
i was reading about this on popular science earlier at work... they said they are working on highways but, nothing above 30mph so far...
they also said that this is at least a decade from production...
watching the above video, power steering is working triple time in that A7, lol
here is a link (http://www.popsci.com/cars/article/2013-01/ces-2013-audi-demonstrates-its-self-driving-car) to the popsci article about it...

The New Audis have Pre-Sense Plus which basically does all that evasive manuevering for you. Applies brake, lane drift warning, adaptive cruise...they describe the system design after the way a school of fish swim together. Both fish and Audis with Pre-Sense Plus know where the other fish/cars are. I sell Audi so I have seen this system really work...pretty cool. Try explaining this system to the 80 year olds lmfao! That is how they are doing this, thats why it was making those hard jerks when the obstacles got close.

This http://fourtitude.com/news/Audi_News_1/nevada-grants-audi-the-first-automaker-permit-to-operate-autonomous-vehicles-on-public-roads/ is what you read. Audi has the rights to test in Nevada. According to the article, only the second time this permit has been granted.

Yeah, Google was the first issued...
Pike's Peak was closed course though... In Nevada, they are testing on open roads... There are still thousands of variables, problems to overcome before this will ever be available for us as consumers.

I think this is a neat idea, but I feel like there is too much overhead associated with it. If you could push a "park" button on your key FOB it'd be much more practicable. Do parking garage's have wifi these days?

It's another nail in the 6MT coffin as this is obviously for AT only.

I know this is new technology, but think of the types of people who can 1) afford these types of cars and 2) afford the mark up of this type of option. A lot of people don't see the benefit of this, but every morning i pull into my law firm's parking garage, make my way to my parking spot and then to the elevator into my building... and im only in Newport Beach, imagine the benefit of this for places like Los Angeles or San Francisco!!
If every morning i could pull up to the front of my building, grab my stuff and send my car on its way to its parking spot it would be freaking awesome! Then at the end of the day, i grab my stuff, beckon my car and walk straight out of my building??? I'm sorry but this is an amazing idea and i would not be shocked to see it in the very near future.
I can see it now, sitting in the office, waiting to start a deposition... "where the f(*& is BOB?" "Oh, yeah he is in the parking garage, parking his car..." "Bob has to park his own car? Its 2023, what does he still have an Iphone 45 too?"
Hahaha.. One day my car will drive me to work... one day.... (staring into the distance)

3rd pedal delete's natural progression, uninspired decerebrate driving's logical sequel.
I had a long conversation with my colleagues about this video.
The important thing to remember is that KITT was a manual tansmission car and shifted itself. So until they put this sytem in a 6MT, I will not be impressed.
I also will point out that the response was slow causing the actress to push the "park" button twice, and the animation showed the car parked forwards when it was parked backwards. Would you really trust your $70k+ to park itself if the app didn't respond as expected?
Despite that I am excited for automated cars. The majority of drivers on the road will just be asleep or working on their tablets, and I can drive as fast as I want because the automated vehicles will just move out of the way. Right?

You wish. They'll probably program them to drive side by side at 1 mph below the posted speed. Then, at a predetermined spot, the program will move the car out of the left lane to allow the pissed-off real drivers to speed up and get caught by the conveniently positioned speed camera. I can already see the government bean counters rubbing their hands with glee.

LMAO. That is a more positive outlook than the death of 6MT. I dont think I will ever own an automated car, maybe not any of us, but its still cool how far the auto industry has come in the last 120ish years.
