A member on here, Seerlah, has requested Treadstone to make a custom intercooler that would be suitable for the VW/Audi community. Reason he asked Treadstone to make this was the restriction that many VW/Audi owners face when it comes to fitment behind the stock bumper. Many would like to retain their fog lights and grills when adding a larger intercooler with cooling capacities of an efficient intercooler. But the intercoolers on the market that can satisfy those goals more times than less are too thick and would require the usage of an aftermarket bumper or modification of the stock bumper. Seerlah tried to choose the dimensions that would suit many applications, not have you cut your bumper (reinforcement bar will need to be cut for some applications), and retain both fog lights and lower bumper grills. And the end result is an intercooler core with the listed dimensions:
Core: 20x10.5x2.5
End to end with end tanks: ~28.5"
Offset of center of end tank outlet/inlet from bottom of core: 4.25"
Inlet/Outlet: 2.5"
Flow Rate: 720 CFM
Pressure Drop: Less than 1psi and less than 2psi at max flow
HP rating: 480hp
Regular Price: $262.50+shipping
Group Buy Price: $200.00+shipping
Please be aware that these have never been test fit and that they are just now being released specifically for the VW/Audi platform. Fitment will all depend upon the installer as far as retaining your fog lights and bumper grills are concerned. But measurements were taken along with comparing the chosen dimension to dimensions of other intercoolers to choose the most suitable sized intercooler for most volume, HP rating, and size to meet the requirements and goals of many. The only item being sold in this GB is the intercooler itself. It is upon you, the user, to piece together your own mounting hardware and charge piping.
The picture on the website does not have the mounting points/tabs for constructing a mounting bracket, as they said the people who made the cast end tanks for them forgot to place them on. They are a little upset about that, but said that they will weld on their own before each shipment. Any questions, feel free to post them here and Seerlah will forward any questions he can not answer himself directly to Treadstone. To order, simply purchase on the Special Group Buy Link (http://www.treadstoneperformance.com/product.phtml?p=4453&cat_key=63&prodname=TR18T+Intercooler+480HP) on Treadstone.com. Link is below.

I've been running a TR-11 for a WHILE now and I love it. Great fitment if you don't mind some bumper trimming.
That's a great price and I'd highly recommend their intercoolers. [up] [up]

Would this fit below the crash bar? So u could see it through the front grille?
Would this fit below the crash bar? So u could see it through the front grille?
It is too tall to mount it below the crash bar. You will either have to modify or just completely remove the crashbar to fit it properly.

There are some people saying that it will actually fit behind the crash bar on the B7, so no cutting would be necessary. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable about this will chime in as to matters of B7 fitment. Small discussion from the chatterbox.

It's been done before with eBay piping. Checkout this thread where me and Nate listed our setups. All the angles, couplers, and clamps you need are listed. I paid right at $150 for my piping.

Yup, I used the godspeed piping kit for around $150... paid $200 for the core, worked out perfectly. An amazing FMIC set-up for 1/2 or in some cases 1/3 of the price. DIY if you don't mind a tad bit of work.

It will fit "behind" the crash bar, not under it.

It will fit similar to how the AWE FMIC fits behind the CB.

Going by the discussion in the chatterbox section, this should fit behind the rebar because it is 2.5" thick. If it were thicker, this could not be accomplished. But this is still on speculation at the present moment, as these have never been test fit onto a B7 (or any car) yet and total length will play a role on where and if it will conflict with the rebar for spacing (going by the conversations). Not sure how handy you guys are with vehicles, but just cut if and where necessary if that ends up being the case (don't be scurred). It is really a universal intercooler, but the dimensions chosen were to really suit the Audi A4 scene.
And on a side note, just visited AWE to take a gander at the B7 FMIC. That thing is just massive. I was like damn! lol

It's a mod. You can't expect things to always go smoothly. Messing with the piping is what makes a really good, if not perfect, fitment. You get out what you put into it. People would dedicate an entire weekend (more than 12 hours total) just to get that perfect fitment. Comes with the territory. But if someone is willing to fab up pieces to replicate for everyone who purchases (I would personally not do this for free...depending), that is a public service.

Lol I'm no fabricator of things, or have the space time or heat to get something like this done lol
Lol I'm just busting your balls. There is really no fabrication needed though, just cutting of pipes here and there to get the right fitment. I do all my work in my gravel drive way :(
I'm prolly down for this if I can sell my current intercooler.

You use a dremel to cut the pipes? And couplers to just get it right? I've been trying to put off buying a dremel lol
I actually used a hacksaw lol Nothing like manual labor :) The major part is getting the pipes cut to fit and actually I only had to cut 1 or 2 and of those it was just a few inches from being damn near perfect.
You could use a dremel or any kind of grinding/cutting wheel... or old school and hacksaw it lol I only had to make a single cut on the pipes, the cold side pipe I had to cut an inch of the very end of the pipe, the end that actually mates to the intercooler itself. This inch allowed for clearance of the drivers side foglight. Other than that? The piping kit was PERFECT. Sensors and everything fit flawlessly.

The exact pipe I was talking about. I also had to cut some off the 90 degree pipe it connects to. Gave me more clearance for my fogs.

It's in essense already been done.... People have used Treadstone's TR6 and TR11 along with custom piping with no issues. I see zero reason this would be different. I'd get in while there is still a GB price.

I agree... the only thing it really boils down to is which Treadstone core you want, they are all great and all quality pieces, just different dimensions to suit different set-ups. This is a good price tho [up]

I'm going to order here shortly :) I'll report back if someone doesn't beat me to it. I already have my piping so it's going to be like Operator said and fit without any added issues. I'm thinking about keeping my 2" piping on the hot side and just get a 2" to 2.5" 45 degree coupler for now. Prolly replace it with a 2.5" L pipe later on.

I used 2.5" > 2.25" couplers on both endtanks to mate up to the smaller piping which is exactly what I wanted and worked out perfectly. Slightly less pressure drop, more clearance and the price was cheaper on the 2.25" lol That's the great thing about going custom, make it however you want [up]

There are a couple sold (couple of B5 and B6 guys), and of course I purchased one myself. Not sure if anybody purchased from the B7 section yet, though. And I think I may have neglected to post this here, but these won't ship out till next week. Reason being is that the person who makes the cast end tanks for Treadstone did not place on mounting points. And so Jason at Treadstone told me that he would need to weld some on before having them shipped out. I mentioned it in the other GB threads, but not sure if I posted it in here or not.
Also, I will more than likely not have mine installed till Spring time. And I am going to have mine professionally installed for best fitment. I have a B5 though, and room is very limited behind my stock bumper.

Yea, I wanted this bad as well, but I knew I couldn't get it until I sold my other core. It took me a couple of months and finally sold it on ebay (of all places) lol Didn't get any bites on the Scion forums. I guess there aren't too many Scion turbo builds going on.

As sad as it sounds. I just hate the way the silicon looks in the fog grilles. If there was a simple way to make the silicone show less and just have the pipe there i would be all for it. Without welding the pipe onto the IC directly.

C'mon James!!! You'll be so busy staring at how low your car is and how awesome your wheels are, the silicone wouldn't bother you that much lol It would be damn near impossible to make a kit where the end tanks are welded with piping and the silicone couplers are completely out of sight. And if you did it definitely wouldn't cost in the neighborhood of $400.

If you want to use this on your Allroad, it won't work. If you have a B7 A4, would be perfect for a k04. Would actually be perfect for anything up to roughly 400whp. You would just need to size your piping accordingly.
