I needed a coolant flush and fill for my
2001 Audi A6 Quattro Avant 2.8
as I bought it used and wasn't sure what was in there (brownish color). As the coolant expansion tank had a little crack with leakage I decided to have a new one put in in the process.
That being said, I currently work in Myrtle Beach, SC, which is far from being AudiWorld, and had to go to a VW dealer to have it done.
When I checked the coolant level after the process it was above the "MAX" line in the expansion tank.
Asking the service advisor she told me that that is the way it's supposed to be and that it should be at normal after driving home.
Now, 3 days later the coolant level is still above "MAX" and does not seem to lower.
I read somewhere that there might be air in there, disguising the level result. Therefore everytime I shut the car down I turn the expansion tank cup just enough for air/vapor to leave the tank, which brought no change in the level so far.
Doing this I did notice that the (Overflow?) opening on the bottom of the tank (same location as the cap, just on the underside) "spits" out some coolant every time the vapor is released.
-- Now I am wondering if I should pump some coolant out of the tank to get it to normal level?
Note on the side:
The VW dealer in Myrtle Beach, SC did not impress me. When I walked in I asked the mechanic (a second one also in the room, with the same reaction) if there would be a huge price difference between using G12 or G12+/G12++.
Both the mechanics proceeded to ask me what G12+/G12++ is and where I heard of that - I was close to walking out of the store again at that time.
Then when the job was done and I checked the engine bay, it was messy! It looked like in the process they had made sure to cover every part of the engine in coolant, leaving stains everywhere.
Leaving the seat in "giant mode" was the least concern.
Have never experienced this kind of service at an Audi dealer!
