View Full Version : 8mm spacers - do they allow enough hub to mount the wheel?

Wanted to see if anyone had feedback on 8mm spacers (flat ones with no extended hub).
I have the ECS ones to mount with my aftermarket wheels. Pondering if I should return for the 11.5mm set that have a extended hub.

After doing some searches, I see Jones2012s4 got 8mm spacers to work with VMR wheels but gringoloco2000 had a lot of problems with vibrating.

Well...based on your Sig, you will be going to a et 34 with the said 8mm spacers. What look are you going for? The 11.5mm would not exceed your fenders and sitasitabout flush minus a few mm .

Edit: I've not had issues with multiple ecs spacers I've used in the past. The bigger concern is what lugs to your wheels use...conical or ball? That's what generally causes vibration issues.

I'm using the ball lug version. same as stock.
Jones2012s4 PM'd me and said to buy a wheel hanger and I should have no problems. I just ordered from ECS.

Stock wheels call for ball. My winters call for conical. Pretty easy to tell just by looking at the wheels taper.

I have used 8mm flat ones without any issue. The only real problem is mounting the tire but as pointed out, this can be helped with a wheel hanger.

I wouldn't do it. I had vibration issues with a 5mm non-lip spacer. I literally spend an afternoon readjusting it and road testing and couldn't get rid of the vibration no mater how centered it was. I was measuring the hub edge to spacer gap with a caliper and did the 20 50 90 torque method and still had issues.

I ended up going with BFI lipped spacers and have been vibration free. They make a 10 so I'd go with that since 2mm won't make a difference and you can be more confident in not having issues.

That said, if any sucker wants a set of 5mm non-lip spacers let me know :)

Definitely need to go with the BFI lipped spacers if you got the stock wheels (assuming you do). The non-lip ones should work with after market wheels.

I am fabricating some customer hub centric rings from some that I ordered. The issue I had with 4mm and 8mm spacers without the lip was that they just don't reach far enough into the VMR wheels to center correctly. The front with 4mm are not so bad. The 8mm are worse. The hubs barely reach past the beveled edge area of the wheels. So, I got some 71.12 to 66.6 rings that I will grind down to fit in the beveled area of the wheel to get them centered correctly. I might try the wheel hangers but I don't think they will prevent them from shifting around with the 8mm spacers.
