I replaced my LPFP and the Fuel filter today but now having an issue. Gas is leaking out of one of the vent tube (I think that's what it is for). I didn't notice any leak when I replace the LPFP at first but when I filled up the tank full coming home, noticed fuel was dripping down from the tank. I removed the seat and the cover to and saw the fuel leaking out from this tube. Have any ideas?

I had to put a taped up golf tee to keep it from leaking more on my garage until I figure out what I need to do - I know, it's ghetto [:D]

I am guessing this is a vent tube of some sort? Is there some piece I was suppose to remove from the old unit to new to prevent leakage through this tube? Help PLEASE!!

Thank you, Viziers!
I don't recall seeing this cap on the old unit I removed. Why is the vent tube there in the first place?

It's because they made the fuel pump universal to fit other models

That's freakin dumb. It should come with that cap then. Glad I reused the original assembly, or this would have happened to me too. Lol.

So then why is that port still there on mine, even though there is no hole?

Thank you for the installation diagram. I guess I will be calling Audi tomorrow morning to see if they have it in stock.

It is even dumber that the service manager failed to ask me to suggest this plug since I gave him the VIN as well as told him it was for 2006 A4. I would like to kick his ass for wasting my time and 1/2 gal of gas on my garage floor.

So I took the picture of the old unit and it is clear that it is sealed from underneath. I am guessing it is cheaper for Audi to tool one plastic injection mold to make parts for several different model.

Well, lesson learned.

Yeah, its good info you brought up. I don't see anything wrong with JB welding that shit. Dealer probably charge $15 for that thing.

Do you still have the old assembly? Chris@fifteenfiftytwo needs a level sensor out of the old basket, as it cannot be purchased separately. ..

BTW, I ended up purchasing the plug from Audi for $8 with my discount

I still have it. I thought about doing the mod, similar to what you did to yours but probably won't get to it knowing others things going on.

Do you know if anyone who would be interested in buying the whole assembly with a bad motor? It would be ideal for anyone thinking about doing the mod.

Like I said, chris@fifteen52 just posted that he wants to do the upgrade, but his leveksender is broken. I'm sure he would be interested

It is not there in the original equipment because it is sealed from underneath. The new pump has that vent tube open to be universal with other models and that's the reason for the plug.

The sad news is that new pump did not fix my problem - Audi dealer didn't diagnose it correctly. Engine light just came back on mad the engine surges a little at 2200 rpm and when I come to stop. I now have good used fuel pump for sale.

Lovely.......why is it so difficult to get an accurate diagnosis from a stealership. I'm sure you would have been happy if you had them do the work and had a big $ invoice and still a problem.

rant of the day.
