View Full Version : Has anyone ever added rear heated seats?

Long story short - I bought a set of recaros that have the rear heat option. I snagged the switch to control the heat, as well.
I have access to the wiring, etc. in the donor car to grab the wiring, and I'm wondering how extensive this retrofit is going to be. Has anyone had experience with this? I found this diagram on Jim Ellis (http://www.jimellisaudiparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_product=5589751&ukey_assembly=751762&ukey_make=1081&ukey_model=15617&ukey_driveline=8055&ukey_trimlevel=19053&modelYear=2008), which makes it seem like a potentially simple install.

Does anyone have any idea what those pieces numbered as 10 are, or where they are located? I have never seen them before. The rest seems to make sense. The 4s are where the harness attaches to the switches, and the 7s are where the seats connect to the harness 9 appears to be where the harness connects at the passenger side footwell.
Any input is appreciated!

Is it possible that the 10's are the front seats? That would be my guess from reading what all the other numbered pieces are.
Black leather and black alcantera. I almost bought that set like 1 hr after you did

Sorry guys! If it helps, I paid more than $1300 but I really had no desire to negotiate. I've never seen these seats for sale and I have always told myself if they became for sale, I would buy. The fact that they were local...no brainer. A couple hundred here or there is completely irrelevant.
And yes, they are perfect. [:D]
But, I have quite the task ahead of me, integrating them into the avant seatback, and adding rear heat. Wish me luck!

Thanks guys!! I am thrilled. They should be going in tomorrow.
Recaro must have done something between 2004 (when I had my original silver alcantara recaros seats that pilled like the sweater grandma knitted for you) and 2007 when these were made. These things look brand new after 80k miles. Feels so satisfying to finally have these - not even the tiniest bit of buyers remorse.

Any advice regarding the rear heated option is greatly appreciated - I'm going back to retrieve any wiring or harnesses I need tomorrow; I figured I'll just trace back as much as I can into the main wiring harness. Thanks.
Those seats are probably in the best condition you will ever find used s4 seats, lucky bastard

PNW I seriously hate you.
If I ever see your car I'm going to steal those suckers...
But seriously, nice pickup! Can't wait to see pics of them installed. My unicorn needs some recaros badly...

Ahhhh, you bastard! I was looking at those and about to pull the trigger! Hahaha, I am glad you got them rather than someone else. I will have to swing by and check those out. I think down the road I am going to try to acquire some and do the black on black alcantara like these have if I can't find a set that has it already.
But recaro definitely did something different, I agree with you there. The white alcantera seats are uncomfortable and kinda bad quality IMHO. Those were mainly on 04 and 05 s4's though. My friend bought a 25 anniversary s4 and the seats are incredible, they feel so soft and comfy like rs4 seats, Same deal with black leather seats on a 2007 s4. Idk if its the leather or that recaro upgraded their seats in 06, but they feel so much better than 04/05 seats.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Went back to the donor car today and tried to extract the rear heat harness...I was hoping it would be somewhat independent but unfortunately it ends up deep in the dash wiring harness. Any thoughts and advice on the retrofit is greatly appreciated! The Jim Ellis Audi link above seems to show that the harness is separate and purchasable...
The owner agreed to take the harness all the way out of the car and at that point we could do more cutting and tracing. So, out of luck for now.
