So, I just got the windshield washer fluid low warning light on the dash and I am looking to top it. Anyone using Prestone De-Icer for winter. I am thinking of getting this versus the OEM fluid from the dealership.
Edit: it is yellow in color....is it even safe to mix with the blue washer fluid?
Thanks

I used that stuff for years in upstate NY. you are fine to put it in and mix it with what is already in there.

My car is on a Blue -20 Only regimine, but I also tap the washer reservoir for methanol injection and dont want other chemicals getting pumped into the engine.
I did buy a bottle of that Prestone "night before" de-icer and have been squirting it on the windshield when I know it is supposed to snow over night.....Havent used it long enough to really say whether or not it works.

Seriously? How do you do this?

Prestone "Ice & Frost Shield" Active ingredients:methyl alcohol (67-56-1) and propylene glycol (57-55-6).
A couple of downsides to this product is it leaves a residue and it also degrades any Rain-X application. Note: Methyl Alcohol is Methanol (as 4ringAR noted above), its a weak acid, corrosive to metals and aluminum and an oxidizer. Propylene Glycol is used as an aircraft de-icer; however, its hygroscopic (think brake fluid) and I am not sure either one is very good for your car's exterior or for rubber molding around windows? Although MA is found in windshield wiper fluid, the concentrations in Prestone's product are greater.

Right on. I use the Rain-X window treatment a few times annually and use the Rain-X window washer fluid always. Its even rated to -34 F, works great even in Alaska.
It even prevents bug splatter, tree sap, berry-saturated birdshit, etc from sticking to the windows allowing for easy clean-up.
