Hello everyone happy holidays! :)

So...i got my 2005.5 6 speed manual 2.0t w 63k miles and it currently has 77k atm.

My first manual car ever. Once in a while it wouldn't go into first gear....like it was being forced so i would just put into different gear then back to 1st an it would work... this happened once in a while....but then sometimes it wouldn't go into any gear....

the shifter feels a bit dry u can hear a lot of noise when changign gears but it runs smooth! had a local tranny shop check everything...fluid is good etc.

but w the car off and messing with the gears...sometimes some gear u can hear liek it's rubbing against something liek metal and metal...

and only 1st and 2nd gear sometime su got to put more pressure to get into gear.

How much does a new tranny cost for these cars? This place quoted me around $1,500 (includes parts and labor)

Car is still drivable its just those issue but doesn't hap[pen all the time...

Taxes coming in....might as well enjoy a brand new clutch :P I was wondering....would it be better if i just get aftermarket clutch? Like stage 1?

I don't got any mods on car and don't plan to...i am only riding low on tein coilovers. later i plan on getting catback exhaust and maybe chip...but that's about it.

so do u think stage 1 clutch or any stage better then oem? Please give reasons and what you think thanks! :)

I live in north hollywood, california....and i see lot of you guys meet up to help each other which is cool was wondering if someone was near my area :P ?? i got a few little things i would like someone to check o:

enjoy the holidays :) thanks!

Get drakes performance clutch. Pay for his flight and feed him a Stromboli, and he'll install it too.

My a4 is tip, but I have have had stage 3 and stage 2 clutches on my previous VW's. I like the feel and clutch engagement on aftermarket clutches much more. Depends on what you want out of it. Any power mods down the road? Go stage 2. I wouldn't replace with a stock clutch, even if you aren't going for more power.

I would tastefully disagree, the stock clutch is a great setup, if I had no mods and my clutch went out I would absolutely get a stock clutch, the failure rate on aftermarket clutches(CM and SB I'm pointing my finger at you!) is ridiculous, they usually have a smaller lifespan also.

No word on drakes clutches never tried one

I'd go OEM again also If you're mostly stock, it handles just fine even up to stg2+

Have my sb stg3 and love it. Try not to believe what you hear just on this forum search around you will find better word of mouth.

I heard he prefers Calzones

Hey man I sent you a PM, this is exactly the scenario that the stage 1 kit is designed for.

It will handle the power even if you decide to chip. But it's cheaper than an OEM replacement.
I have a few customers in your area I'm sure one could PM you.

Welp. I'm having a similar issue but it only started in the winter time. I haven't heard any of the noises the OP discusses but I sometimes cannot get my B7 into first and second gear, which I then put it into third and it goes in perfectly to first and second after. Maybe it's time for a new clutch, or could it be because of the cold?

The stock clutch is ok, but I really wish it had more initial bite. It just feels kind of soggy and weak in terms of engagement. However, I do worry about the longevity of aftermarket clutches.

I find that odd, on my 35r my fx-400 6 puck handled itself fine. Did you contact CM about the issue?

I have around 60k on my stage 3, and Vizi has roughly the same on his CM

Typically I've noticed that there is very little wear on my discs. Maybe Eric can chime in with some pics of the setup he took out after 10k

I would never replace a stock clutch with a stock clutch. These people must be taking crazy pills. I got my stage 3 Vast clutch cheaper (now sold by DrakesbPerformance) than a stock clutch, and it performs and feels 10x better thsn stock. Plus they work flawlessly with the stock flywheel, you just need it resurfaced.

This is all good info

I'll probably be needing to do a clutch within the year.
