View Full Version : This quote seems very high!

I recently bought a 2000 A6 2.8 Quattro and am having some work done on it, but I was astonished to get the quote back from the mechanic (not even an Audi dealership) as to how much the work would cost.

Here is what they quoted:

O2 Sensor: $265 parts, $130 labor
Engine mounts: $1011 parts, $1208 labor
Upper control arms: $530 parts, $500 labor
Coolant Pipe O Ring & Seals/Intake Gasket: $169 parts, $690 labor
Cam Adjuster Gaskets & Valve Cover Gaskets: $130 parts, $1050 labor

This is my first Audi, but I'm pretty sure this mechanic is charging a fortune. Some of the parts costs look okay, but the labor seems very expensive. In particular, the engine mounts shouldn't be costing over $2k surely?!

If anyone has any suggestions as to what these repairs should cost it would be greatly appreciated.

Also, if anyone can recommend a good mechanic in the Orange County area or if someone thinks they can get the job done, that would also be a great help!

check the socal shop thread in this forum.

you are getting raped bro.

In Orange, your best bet for a low cost fix by an Audi Master Mechanic is by taking it to Raven in Long Beach or Raz at Auto Union in Huntington Beach... should save you atleast $500

that is hilarious that they are charging you $500 for two control arms.

name your shop so everyone here can stay away.

That o2 sensor is actually double what it actually cost and the labor is retarded as it takes 10 mins tops to install... with that in mind everything else is really far fetched. As said before Auto Union Tuning is your best bet for a shop that won't rip you off and best of all they worked at Audi...

Thanks for your reply man.

The shop is called Chapman Car Care. Its not a specialist Audi mechanic, but they did have really good reviews...which is surprising considering the price they quoted me!

Your motor mounts should be $175 for the pair. And then maybe another 300 for labor.
cam adjuster and valve cover gaskets $500 total.
Everything else I would have to see to verify.

But those quotes are outlandish. Way above and beyond what most dealers would charge.

Yeah way too expensive. Check out AUTuning in HB, those guys are too notch and will save you tons of money compared to that other place.

For future reference I do recommend seeing Audi specialist, I feel like most of the time these general car mechanics are charging you more for labor because they don't know WTF they're doing with your car, I think they're learning as they're going.

Welcome to Audi ownership, lol.

I would highly suggest Raven Motorsports in Long Beach. Very good services and fair pricing.
