Guys,

Need some quick help. I have a 2007 A4 6-sp that has been sitting for 5-6 months. I would regularly start it and give it a drive every month to keep things ok. 3 months ago I left the dome light on and came back it it being completely dead.

It was a challenge to jump - had to read up about the immobilizer and figured that out - I think - as I got it to take the jump and fire up.

The car was moved and sat for another month and it is dead again. This time COMPLETELY dead, nothing lights up. I tried a car charger on it for a day and even a jump and it does nothing.

Before I get the tow truck and move it to the shop, I would appreciate any help. I would rather jump it (: and save the tow charge.

Thanks
S.

It might be time for a new battery.

If you tried a jump and a trickle charger and nothing, my guess is you need a battery. If letting it sit for long periods of time, invest in a battery minder.

Thanks Guys..I gather it is the battery, but why would it not take the jump? That is the odd thing for me.

Battery is probably dead beyond keeping any charge in it... you can probably try push start if you have a friend.. since its manual.

Add fuel.

All interior light that are left on go off as soon as you lock the car. Push start the car and drive to an auto parts store that can test the battery. Fuel stabilizer might not be a bad idea, since you had the same tank of gas for 6 months.

If a battery is allowed to go completely dead, one or more of the cells dies (there are 6 in a 12 volt battery). Once a cell dies, it's dead. At that point it will no longer take or hold a charge. This will happen to even a brand new battery if it is allowed to go completely dead which is what can happen if it is left unattended for an extended period of time. If all you did was start the car and move it, the battery was likely not fully recharged, so one month was enough time for a weak battery to completely die.

Batteries that have little life left can short out (internally sulfate of whatever its called) when left completely drained and they will not take a jump or a charge. A new battery is probably all you need.

I also have one of those smart battery chargers that will not charge a battery if it is completely dead. It needs a little voltage to sense that the battery is O.K. otherwise it won't charge. This may be why it does not charge.

Geez, how many people tow their cars because of a dead battery?

Next time your going store a car just unhook the terminals. I did that in my integra and it lasted over 18 months

Definitely worth considering, our cars' computer continues to monitor certain things even when they're parked and the keys are removed.
