only main difference is the s-line package and newer again; There are other smaller items which were revised from 06 to 08. Get either one you want with the options you want.

Are you sure the 2008 is a TRUE s-line and not a special edition? If you dont know what I mean look it up. You can also post up a pic of its interior and exterior if you like for us to confirm.

I would go with the 08 due to the fact that you get the s-line look and upgraded parts like the revised pcv, and the piston DV. You'll have less problems down the road.

2008s didnt get the piston DV. B8's got them in 2009.

There was a nice thread in the B5 section over at 4T about the differences between the years of the B5. I wonder if anything like that exists for the B7 A4?

The 2006 has Bi-xenons, RNS-E, 3 spoke steering and color DIS.
The 08 has s-line front bumper and 19s and I don't know what else.
IMO xenon light is a must.
GL, with the purchase.

If you want my opinion, I'd go with the 2006, because of the options it has. But then again you should go with the car that has the options you want.

The 2008 has a lot of mods. Suspension, Rotiform(?) wheels, black wrapped roof, tint, some kind of intake, smoked side markers, suede headliner, clear cornered headlights, custom seats(?), looks like exhaust, and who knows what else. Wouldn't be surprised if has a tune and maybe more. But it has a CVT transmission, which really blows. Those have a tendency to self destruct at that mileage. And not that it matters, but it does not have the s-line package as advertised.
The 2006 has Nav, memory seats and quattro.

From what I saw the 06 looks better. I would stay away from a heavily modded car unless you knew the previous owner. If you are hell bent on the 08 you should mention how heavily modded it is cause resale is killed by that.
Also the 08 being an s-line doesnt seem to be true. Why a 4 spoke steering wheel?

My 08 is special edition s line and I love it but always wished it had interior s line features like the steering wheel and badges. My buddy has an 06 but non s line and has heated seats and a whole bunch of other small features that mine lacks. Guess it's the whole "sports" thing.

It is probably not a Special Edition, just a regular 08, which all have the s-look. I only know this from looking at new A4s in early 2008. All they could offer me was S-look (non s-line) or SE. Didn't find either attractive, so I held off and got an almost new Titanium. There is a lot of confusion around here about what an SE is. SE came with 17" Y spoke wheels.

06 is nicely optioned but the 08 has everything already done to it that you would want to do anyway. that being said i like the 08 more.

I've had an '06 and '08. I miss the memory seats from the '06, but the '08 is far more fun, and is a true s-line. Plus the '08 seems to have fewer issues than the former.
Also the '08 is a 6mt, so it has an unfair advantage over the tip '06. ;)

The 08 has everything on it with ideal mileage but it lacks quattro which is a must for an audi IMO. CVT transmission is looked down upon by the audi community in most cases so its a toss up. I really love the way the 08 is modded esp the suede interior but I think you should look around some more. Be patient and look everythwere!
If you must buy one, get the 06, it has less mileage, xenons, QUATTRO, rns unit. I would try to bargain that price down a bit tho. Good luck.

The CVT transmission on the 08 is the knockout punch for me. Would never own one. The 19 inch wheels don't do anything for me either. While they look pretty nice the ride is noticeably harsher than the 17s on the 06. You may not ever need AWD in Texas so that is a wash but know that the front track gets significantly better gas mileage and also had a 2 gallon larger gas tank than the Quattro if economy means anything to you.

Now that ppl mention it, i dodn't realize one was awd and the other was fwd
it's a no brainier, Audi = quattro < any other option.
I cant fathom why anyone would get a fwd Audi.
Ed Gein
12-15-2012, 12:12 PM
oh, its cvt fwd, nevermind.
Bixenons, RNS-E, lower miles and quattro. NO CONTEST.
Even if both were quattros, still no contest. A s-line bumper with paint used cost less then Bixenons and RNS used.

I so wanted Quattro but the weather here is sunny and clear more than 300 days a year. I got FWD for the fuel economy. Looking forward to the day a TDI Quattro Audi of some kind becomes affordable on my budget!
Definitely get xenons and heated seats if you are into them. Everything else is optional, and are easy additions later. Personally - I wouldn't pay extra for RNS, S-line wheels, or S-line suspension. Aftermarket parts are much better anyway. So if you can get a very basic quattro model in great mechanical shape - just add these later.

I went to test drive both and I pretty much decided on the 06 I was scared a bit by both shaking on idle but I didn't know it was normal it really wasn't horrible I just want to make sure its normal

Obviously others will chime in but you should always get your own inspection done and get maintenance records but alittle rough idle isn't bad believe me haha

The vibration smooths out considerably once the car reaches operating temperature. Mine is like a massage chair in cold weather when I start it up and put it into drive! [:p]

I agree. Getting the 2006 over the 2008 in this case is a no-brainer. I want a color DIS so bad. Just reminds me of how badly I got ripped off when I bought my 2008 [headbang]

Thank you for posting that.
I'm looking at a "s-line" 08 at a dealership and was wondering what made it an S. It looks exactly like the first picture. I thought the rims were a little basic for a sports version or a"upgraded" a4. Would that be a deal breaker on finding one of these used? If I was to add coilovers and find new rims later would I still be missing out on a s-line?
