Just got this 2000 Avant 2.8l for pretty cheap. 150k on the clock. P/o said he had just done valve seal gasket timing belt waster pump new battery which he had paper work for so i picked it up. The day i bought it threw a P0300 code on the long drive home... Random misfire. The p/0 said it has been sitting for awhile so i was hoping it had something to do with that. When i got it home i went inside for about an hour an came out to take it for spin and she wouldn't start.[headbang] She sounded like she wanted to turn over but no luck. I tryed again about 10 minutes later and she started up. ?? Battery was reading where it should. Had no issue's for about a week. Had my mechanic check it out an he said it needed a left bank CAT an thought the starter was going. Ran VAG com an the only fault it came up with was a stored temp fault. A day later same start issue wouldn't start for about 30 minutes let it sit an she started up. So we replaced the starter which is a bitch an the fuel filter... Again about a week an then the no start. [facepalm] I am starting to get pissed here. Started reading a lot an saw that some people had reported the same issue an it ended up being a coolant temperature sensor. I replaced that an so far its still starting up.. has anyone had a similar problem.. im hoping this could be the fix but am not 100% convinced. sorry for the ramble. Thanks. im also replacing the cat this week. also no p0300 fault since the fist day a couple weeks back. [wrench]

Simple fixes are usually ones i over look. I checked them out and cleaned them as well the first time the car wouldn't start. Thanks.

Check to see if you have a reading on your RPM gauge when turning the engine over. If you have no reading then your crank position sensor isn't working and that is what controls spark to the engine. Most likely your coolant sensor giving a super cold "reading" which causes the ECM to make it uber rich.

Ok so after a couple days after i replaced the CTS i again didnt start. There is zero read from the rpm gauge. But then after about two trys it fired up. I will try an change out the Crank sensor an see what happens. Im starting to pull my hair out. Thanks for the feedback
