I replaced the head unit on my c4 a6.. There are two antenna cables , I plugged one cable in the new radio but reception is poor now. Can I splice the two antenna cables together and then hook it up to the head unit?unit

You don't need the diversity antenna connected for good reception on your new h/u.
Your issue is more than likely to be that you're not powering the antenna booster with the antenna adapter you are using, ie. you are likely to have the wrong adapter installed to your new h/u or wired incorrectly.
