I've got a pretty significant PS leak from the front left wheel well area, and It looks to be the feed hose from the reservoir to the pump. The factory replacement hose is north of $25...

My question is, which hoses in the system are under high pressure? I installed a PS cooler several years ago with no problems, and I'm just using the hoses that came in the kit. Here's a link to a similar kit (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/accessories/Torqflo-5-x-12-3-4-in-Pro-Cool-transmission-cooler/_/N-25io?itemIdentifier=267252_0_0_). I just cut the loop off the stock PS cooler, and slipped these hoses over top with hose clamps, no issues.

By my account, the only hose under pressure is "10", the hose in question is (I think) hose "12".

Am I reading this right to assume I might be able to replace "12" with something like heater hose?

Yeah, that one is the suction hose, no pressure there. It is available aftermarket, actually. Audi part number is 3B0422887.

Here it is for 9 bucks:
