This thing is harder to sort out a stereo for than when I did the custom build for my C4 Corvette. I've started really digging into it, and have a few questions. The front speakers suck and rattle bad and I was hoping to do something quick that would at least get me through the winter so I don't have to gut the interior to run wiring right now.
1) There is a Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD in it now (this is getting replaced in the near future, I'm looking at an Avic X940BT or a Kenwood DNX6190). I pulled it back yesterday to take a look see, and I didn't see a Bose adapter to make it work with the speakers. I pulled the door panels, and it does have Bose speakers, so I dunno what's up with that. There is a unit in place called a PTR-7? Dunno what it does exactly, but it's not in line with the speaker wires, so I'm guessing it was for the rearview camera/dvd vid bypass/who knows what?
2) Who's bright idea was it to mount speakers to the door panels ?! I have a nice set of Polk db5250 5.25" speakers, but they won't work in unless I cough up $45 for adapters from Europe. Looks like the rear doors and rear deck are approximately 6" I'm guessing 6.5" since that is a standard size. Can't use my 5.25" there either. Dammit.
3) I have a pair of 8" JBL GTO804's that I would like to use, but of course there aren't any custom sub boxes available. Trying to determine the best place for them. I was considering mounting them to the rear deck, but I can just hear the metal rattling in the rear deck now, so that's probably not a great idea. I'm not interested in fiberglassing the cubbies, so the only other option is a regular sub box. Part of me is contemplating building a sub box that I can mount below the rear deck to keep it up high. I could also mount my amp to that. Having said all that, is there a difference in sound if the subs are pointed cone up or down?
I've been searching this forum, and every other forum that gives me hits, for 2 days. My head hurts now from all the stuff I've found. [headbang]
Thanks gang!
