Persistence is the biggest thing. I normally have a second set of hand with a really long (3feet+) screw driver to help. You can see the bolt if your looking threw the passenger side of the steering rack and use the screw driver to guide the 10mm 12 point onto the bolt. You'll at least need 3 + feet of extensions with the farthest extension having a wobble on it. You have to access the rear most bolt from the bottom of the car.

I had the same issue on my '01 (2.8). While the bolt seemed clearly accessible to everyone else from underneath, there was clearly something a little different on mines.

^^ Is this what you're seeing from under there?

I had to bend the hell of that piece of heat-shield just to be able to see the bolt from underneath.

You can see where I pulled the piece of metal back.

I had a metal rod with a bent tip that I used to pull/bend the heat-shield back from the drivers side wheel well.

I'm sure there's a less barbaric approach to it, but I'm not that great at finessing things through small spaces.
