If your replacing the control arms this is even more benificial. I didnt take pics but after reading many write up's I decided to do this my way. Not sure if any of you have done it like this.

-First do the obvious, jack the car and remove wheels.

-Then PB blast the pinch bolts and lower strut mount.

-Pop the "hidden" body plugs out by the upper strut mount in the engine bay. There will be 2 13mm nuts you have to loosen about halfway.

-Take the 16mm lower strut nut off and wiggle the bolt out about half way (You might be able to get it out all the way. If you can, do that). Use a screw driver and hammer it out till it hits the lower control arm.

- Then take the 16mm nut off the upper pinch bolt then hammer that out. Tap the control arms out. Stick a screwdriver in the crack between the pinch bolt mount and tap. Ive never had a problem with this bolt, I can have it in and out in about 30 seconds. Some people have lots of gripes about it.

- At this point you can pivot the hub around. Wiggle the lower strut bolt out now while moving that around.

-Now remove the 13mm nuts that were under the body plugs, and the 16mm top hat bolts.

- wiggle the top hat loose and take it off the upper spring perch while that is still under the car. That will allow more room to take the strut out.

Boom! Now reassemble with the new parts and install in reverse. Sorry if the description is a little lacking, its kind of hard to describe without pictures but I was on too much of a roll to stop and shoot the process. This is how my roommate and I removed both front struts in less than 45 minutes, and this is only my second time in 3 years doing this.

I figured others have done it this way, but as a refresher I searched many write ups and did not see one guiding the process through like this. Therefore i knew I was no suspension Guru but that I had indeed figured out a way to do this on my own very easily. Just wanted to make sure ya'll knew too! Smart ass :)

I can post one that will help. Use this write up to show where the top bolts are,

http://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel49.shtml

and this photo shows the only 2 bolts that require removal under the car.

See LCA where the bolt is gone. The upper control arms unconnected (pinch bolt) and knuckle is being held in by the tie rod. This is where you can wiggle everything out starting with the top hat.

Man up brother. I dont have problems with rust down here so maybe thats why you seaside people have problems with it. PB blaster and a little hammer.

You live in nevada. The only way the 12 year old maine car pinch bolt is coming out is by cutting it. I'm thinking about getting a whole new control arm setup so i might end up doing this again.

Is it really rusted shut that bad? Try heating it up? Put vice grips on the bolt end and hammer it out like that..

Ever wanna buy a 50 year old car come to NV.

haha no worries. I've been around here too long.

An easier way to do it WITHOUT pinch bolts is this.

1. Jack car up, take wheel off
2. Pull out 18mm bottom shock nut/bolt (kinda sucks, impact gun/prybar helps. Make sure you put it back the other way to avoid headaches)
3. Swing the bottom of the shock over the control arm and leave it hanging towards the front of the car.
4. Take out 3 shock tower bolts
5. Pull shock down with it still connected to upper control arms
6. take out two nuts and pull shock assembly out
7. Reverse to install
8. Profit

I was in the same scenario, but ended up using an air hammer to break them free.

I had to remove the control arms for new ones, but I guess that works too lol
