k04 question...

After considering many days, decided to go k04 because there was used garrett k04 for sale for cheap. I called the guy quick ( thinking should get there before anybody else ) and met him up and got the turbo..
blades were good, checked the tag k04 , condition of the flange, etc... basically what i thought mattered. Came home happy and i typed the whole turbo tag on google.... that's when things started to go wrong.
the turbo is k0422-882 and its off of mazdaspeed 3 and the bolt pattern for the flanged didn't match :(.. went to my mechanic and he said I 'might' be able to do it but i need to find different turbo manifold.
what manifold should I use ?? and is that everything I need to do ?

Wrong turbo. Don't think without a custom fab job to get that baby on.
By the way: GARRETT alone should have told you its not a K04. Those are made by KKK or "3K" (now Borg Warner or BW).
How much did you pay? Do you want to unload?

What car/engine do you want to put it on? K03 longi (A4 1.8T, Passat) or K03 transverse (Golf, Jetta, TT 1.8T) or K03 2.7T (well, probably not, you would have 2)?
My local turbo shop ([email protected]) may have a turbo for you. $400 plus your core (if in decent shape) probably gets you a custom turbo like mine.

He built me a great K04 hybrid (actually outflows a plain jane K04 from what I read; I flow 180 g/sec on my AEB 1.8T, while most K04 on AEB with Giac PC16 flow in the 170s). Factory rebuilt.
Have the trans out right now and inspected turbo after 2 years: tight as it gets, perfect condition.

What tune do you plan to run? Or just swapping K03 for K04?

Hi Audiziners, question on doing K04 upgrade, from the stock turbo on my 01 1.8TQ. With a K04 turbo "any brand", ECU change "any brand", downpipe and Exhaust, will I have problems passing Cailfornia SMOG, as you know if you live in Cali, SMOG is getting harder and harder to pass in Cali.

I would guess as long as you have a functioning cat, you should be able to pass with any turbo/tune.
