So this is the second time iv had a problem with the cooling of the engine, but this is the first time they have given me formal documentation. How many s4's have lemoned their cars because of this. I am looking to lemon this because it was a life threatening issue i almost got into an accident because of this. Please tell me what your take is on this or if this is possible to do.

can you give some details. Your car overheated, lots of cars overheat, that is not life threatening.
Some perspective here would be good to be able to advise you better.+

What do u mean documentation and by life threatning??BTW cars can and will overheat especially in this heat wave were in right now.No probs at all with mine so far(knock on wood) as I haven"t heard too much with overheating since they replaced the thermostats with a lot of the 2010's.

This post is full of "grammer" goodness.
First off, who are you referencing when you use the word "they" in the second half of your first sentence?
Second, when you say "lemoned their cars because of this.", are you referring to general overheating, or are you referring to what you mention later on as a "life threatening situation"?
Third, please explain what you are talking about when you say "life threatening situation", we need a lot more context here before anyone can give you any advice.

If it's a 2010 it's time to drain your coolant. Replace with distilled water, one quart of antifreeze, one quart of Water Wetter. You're in California so you shouldn't need to protect the car to -10 degrees or whatever.

I have a 2011 purchased in August 2010. Some sort of record heat wave going here in the WMA area, and zero issues with the car overheating.

When you ask for advice by posting on a forum, users generally prefer having something coherent to work with.
You have given absolutely no details regarding situation. Either explain the issue or expect more posts similar to those above.

This post is lacking information & is a bit incoherant. What documentation?
Many people had waterpump issues (recall) and got their car fixed - not life threatening.
Also many have had a new thermostadt installed (recall) - not life threatening.
It is not, intuitively obvious to the most casual observer, from your post, what the underlying cause or issue was.

Really? I just read through the whole thread again but I can't find any "asshole" comments except this post by you. People are asking for more information to try to help you and you are acting like a jerk (with your reply) or a retard (with your lack of information or reading skills). You take your pick.

Well, I for one was not trying to be an ass and I don't think most the people here were. You asked for advice/help, but gave a very vague description of the problem. We all asked for more information.
Not trying to be an ass, just help

Not one thing you listed is an example of poor grammar. Maybe poor communication.

Come on guys. Obviously none of you deal with clients, customers, etc. Its pretty obvious the guy is having overheating issues and his last experience put him in a dangerous situation and all I see is a bunch of smart ass remarks. Some of us aren't masters of the English language including yours truly so whats with the effing grammar Nazis or smart ass comments about a thermostat not being life threatening.
B(eight)
Just to keep things productive, the early 2009 and 2010 S4s had a water pump recall, besides that, overheating is not a known issue with these cars. (commas/run-on sentence intentional to piss off the grammar Nazis)
Sounds like you have a Lemon. Good luck with the Lemon process. I went through it with my sister's IS250 because her car would stall out coming to a stop which is life threatening as well (loose power brakes and car wouldn't not start right away.) The dealership she dealt with couldn't reproduce the problem which made the whole process a year long nightmare. It was so bad we will never buy a Toyota product. Goodluck.

Thanks for being one of the nicer guys on the forum. It wasn't a water pump recall because my car is a 2011. Ya id like to try and lemon it so i can get the rs5.

It cools down when i turn it off, but when i start driving it overheats again. What would be causing that to happen?

Why are you calling people ass holes? All they did was ask legitimate questions. Now that you finally told us you have a 2011 and it was not the water pump, that is a little more info.
What I still don't get is you overheated twice, what were the circumstances? Were you going up the Grapevine on I-5 at 100mph with the AC on full when it was 100 degrees out? If so, then yeah, you might over heat. If you were just driving through a 30mph zone with the windows down on an nice 70* evening and the car overheats, then that is a totally different issue.
What did they fix the first time you overheated? What did they fix the second time it over heated?
If the first time was something like a waterpump failure and the second was a thermostat, then you can't lemon that most likely. Lemon law in general is 3 of the same problem (3 water pumps) in a year or car being in the shop for x number of days in a year. And it normally has to be the first year or two of owner ship.
So, back to what pretty much everyone here has asked, can we please have more details so we can offer better advice?

Good info here, based on this, sounds like there is a problem with coolant flow which could be a number of things; water pump, thermostat, radiator plugged, low coolant. Those are things to check.
As I said in my previous post, if you overheat, but for different reasons, then it will be tough to lemon law the car, but if they fixed the same thing multiple times, then you might be able to.

although I think he scarred off any help he might get it sounds like an intermittent problem. not sure what would cause it to happen. I was stuck in traffic the other day. It was 104* outside and I had my ac set to low since I had my windows open before. The needle didn't budge at all so I'm not sure at what point these cars would overheat unless there was a problem.

There's usually a negative response when one starts throwing around "lemon" as a result of a problem that's apparently recurred a whopping two times. Most 2010 owners had water pump failure and then a thermostat recall, both of which are non-trivial repairs, and you didn't hear people crying lemon. Cars break down sometimes. Just get it fixed.
Maybe his car was on fire? That would both cause the car to overheat and be a life threatening situation. Was your car completely engulfed in flames both times? This would be helpful information to have.

So basically your car is overheating when you turn it on and not overheating when you turn it off?
I try not to be one of the automatic "assholes" on here but you really have given us absolutely no information that we could use to help you. Sounds like you just hope it's something serious so you can get an RS5...

My water pump blew on the way home from the airport in a ghetto in downtown Little Rock close to midnight. It was definitely a life-threatening issue. I'm still stuck with the car, but I got free smoothie when I threatened the dealership under Arkansas' little known papaya law.
