View Full Version : vmr v710 in a 9.5 width has minimal tire stretch in a 255

i initially feared that the vmr in 9.5 inch width would make a 255 tire size look stretched and wanted to go with 8.5 inch for a more vertical sidewall with some additional rim protection. i can safely say that the continental extreme contact dws does not look stretched at all, but i guess it really depends on the tire make.
the concavity looks great with a wider barrel. also, unlike the 8.5", the spokes also do not protude beyond the rim edge so you could rest them face down without scratching the spokes (not that you would want to do that as the outer edge would make contact). patiently awaiting delivery of b8.5 to mount these.
i like to align the rings on the center cap to point to the tire valve...just like i like to align the tire label to the valve stem on all my bike wheels. makes inflating tires a millisecond faster.[:D]

Your yardstick skills leave a lot to be desired.
Nice wheels tho.

Under load?

i've been mostly looking at photos with tires off the car, but you make an excellent point that tires will stretch more under load.
for reference, these were posted by another forum member with lm60 blizzak winters in a 255. it could be the tread pattern, but it looks a bit more tapered with slightly more lip exposed compared to the conti dws.
one reason i went for the 9.5 was because the bore diamter was 66.6 stock, whereas the 8.5's had to been machined from 57.1 and i didn't want any issues with them being off centered.

Wheels look good, Do the audi center caps swap directly onto the vmr wheels?

I know this is a bit off topic but have you ever used the continental DWS? If so how'd you like them? I'm running hankook V12's on my 335 right now but need to do something about the winter when it comes. I keep debating wether to switch to DWS and sell the V12's or just do a set of summer and winter. How are the DWS in summer conditions in terms of performance?

yes, direct fit unlike the avant gardes.

as a comparison, i've used both the michelin pilot sport a/s plus and the conti dws. both are excellent in the summer, and serves my driving style, but i find the dws is a bit better in the winter and can handle light snow quite well. its also a lot cheaper than the michelins.

unfortunately, i think the car is still in halifax waiting to board a train. the color is indeed hypersilver, although i wish vmr made a machined faced version.

Extremely noob at this: why not go with the middle ground, and opt for the 9 width?

Because these wheels don't come in 9 with the correct offset. I want these wheels in 10 but they don't come in that size either.

Pardon me ... after READING the thread I see those are VMR. They look great! Soooo close to the MORR from those angles.

I've got the 9.5 Avant Garde with the 255 tire and the stretch looks about the same as what you posted. I too was worried that it would look bad but it's not really noticable. I also posted a bunch of photos in my mod thread under post #67. Nice color choice on the car and the rims look good too.
