There are companies in the uk that will fix this if you send them the dashpod and they fix it and send it back to you for around £200 and it doesn't need reprogrammed or anything so I assume there would be similar companies in the US. Has it definitely been diagnosed as the dashpod and not a problem with tank senders?

Ok, thanks, what about rebuilding this myself? Has anyone done that?

Have found this company for you but don't know anything about them.

It is a pretty nasty job from what I can make out and you could do more harm than good unless you really know what you're doing. It's usually the motor for the needle that dies from what I understand.

Is it definitely the dashpod though as the tank senders are bad for dying too. Does your car have the DIS display with miles to empty etc as if the information on this is correct (as in the miles to empty are still correct) then it will be your dashpod however if the miles to empty are incorrect along with the fuel gauge then it is not the dashpod and more likely to be a sender in the tank.

Stu.

Good find, certainly makes it a lot cheaper but I'd be worried I did more damage than good. I'm more a hammer and spanner kind of DIYer :)

I searched that for the OP. Did not know you had an issue also. He asked about rebuilding it himself, and this seems like what he would need. I doubt it is difficult.

Thanks guys, u have been awesome,
I am pretty sure that it is the dash pod, but not positive, I unplugged the sender and tried the ignition switch to accessories a few times and the needle remained at the level it was! Other guys said that theirs went empty and then they knew it was sender issues, is there another sensor I can test??? I am up for that!!!!

damn shops being hella themselves by offering me a minuscule amount off the work/ part because I brought up the recall, but this seems like I can do no more harm then render it completely useles, which it is already :)

If you are the type that fiddles with electronics, take the cluster out, open it up, and see what needs to be done. I am far from an electrical guru, but I would have tackled this myself if I were in your shoes. Heck, this was my last electrical adventure on my vehicle. You won't know unless you try.

Ok, I just want to make sure there isn't a sensor in the tank, that I am missing... Cause the needle moves, and the miles to empty panel works, but the needle is not accurate, when it hits half, I'm empty, and when I fill up... It's at the furthest point possible

Oh. That issue is rather common on the B6 A4 platform. Can't recall what it is, and I'm too lazy to look it up. Hence, use the search function in the B6 section. There is a part on fuel level mechanism that causes this. Free fix.
