here's the story,
bought a 2003 audi a4, 1.8t 5-speed with 130k.
this car had a serious issue when i bought it, being a cracked head, the symtoms were obvious, (milky oil, smoke, rough running, bla bla..)
So i figure, no big deal, ill just fix it, i got it cheap, so i had lots of room to work with.. ( 2k for the wondering)
work that has been done:
AMB head removed and awm installed.
Timing belt
Tensioner damper
Tensioner roller
Waterpump (metal impeller)
Relay roller
Serpentine belt
1 new coilpack
Expansion tank is brand new
Replaced the cam seal & crank seal (crank bolt is brand new)
Suction pump is brand new (part of the breather system, I thought it was bad but it wasn't)
Climate control unit
Valve cover gasket
Snub mount
bla bla bla!
to get to the point...
the previous owner put block sealant into the motor, which seized all the coolant passages and cracked the head.
i got the new head on, and fixed everything, Runs like new, perfect.
now the bad, i bled the coolant system to start with, filled with 50/50 of G12.
ran fine...drove it for 500 miles, no problems, except NO HEAT.
got home, got in the car the next day and my coolant light came on.
hummm...weird.. no coolant in tank, so i filled it up to max, figuring that it was just air bubbles in the system.
ran the heat all the way to work, and still got no heat unless it was at over 4k rpms. (then is was minimal.)
about to leave work that night and got back in.... out of coolant! added another quart, figuring that it was possible that its just more air...
ALL THIS TIME, i have searched and searched that car for signs of a drip or leak... and not a drop to be found...
CARPET is DRY, not a single drop of anything anywhere under the hood.
Today, i decided that i would try to bleed the rest of the system of air.
if you bring the car up to temp, and crack the coolant res tank cap, it has noticably to much pressure behind it.
i have so much air in my system that i can turn the car on, and open the bleeder screw and it will pump out nothing but air for over 5 mins.
when the car is warm, the temp gauge stops exactly in the middle, there is not the slightest sign of smoke, not a trace of coolant in my oil...
the only other suspicious thing is this... my rear pass floor carpet is wet... it has rained a few times this week, but..? i would assumbe that this is just rain water,...and even so..
how is this much air getting into my coolant system????????????????????
