so - I wanted a vent pod but I did not want to simply drill out my existing vent like I did on my sedan.
So I said to myself, "Brr... you can make the same thing APR (edit: I initially compared this to AWE's pod with is not the same) sells, and for about 10 bucks."

And so I did... It's just a little heavier... [:D]
It's not perfect yet - but I will make it perfect when I get back from vacation. And to think AWE sells this pod for like 100 bucks???M

Looks good!

To be fair though, the AWE tuning pod still allows airflow through the vent as well as up/down adjustment according to their site. I am probably going to go that route simply because it matches the dash lights of my '01 perfectly.

heh heh - yes indeed. I had what AWE offered in my sedan - when I simply drilled out the vent. AWE's gauge is much nicer than mine tho. [:p]

I think I was mistaken in the initial post and meant the APR vent pod. Thats the solid one right?

Yep, you're right...APR makes the solid one. Forgot about that one. Yours definitely stacks up to that one I think.

i also have the AWE center vent guage.... but after looking at it i really think that if you had just guage you make one just like AWE's.... all you would need to do is use a drill bit that they use to drill a hole in a wood door for the door knob. then just secure it and you would be set and you would still have use of your center vent.....

just food for thought

WholeSea: As cool as I think the clear plexi cover is, I just can't get around that glare. Looks like it would drive me crazy.

I melted mine with a soldering iron and then finished it with a mini dremmel.

The glarea really isn't bad, I think it was the angle at which I took the picture, I think I was trying to show the curve of the glass...

Sitting in the drivers seat, there is no glare, I can read the gauge perfectly...

How hard was it to shape the plexi glass. I looked at doing this but went with the guage in an extra vent I had. Looks real clean and very easy to read.

how do you guys feed the hose from the engine to the vent i took out my vents and it looks very hard. (Just a big black hole) I am just going to drill my vent. But need to know how to get the boost hose to the vent first.

Cheers

Looks good Brrman but how about dyeing it to match the rest of the vents?

Aye, the APR how-to is great. Just drill a hole in the back of the vent housing and rout it down above the drivers side kick panel, through the ECU Box, punch a hole in the rubber gromet and hook it into the FPR on the motor.

I shaped the plexi in the oven. I made a sort of jig out of light-weight aluminum, bent it to the shape I wanted, cut a piece of plexi and started to melt it in the oven, when it was flexible, I pulled it out and shaped it to the shape I wanted (WEAR GLOVES)

I thought about it (I actually have the gray vinyl dye at home), but I have also painted my shifter surround with black dye, so it kinda makes a nice symmetric flow up the console with it being black.

I am in the slow process of making a lot of the trim in my car black. My stock in terior is basically all gray and its boring. I may vinyl dye the insets of my seats black too.
