So I picked up a pretty beat up S4 bumper yesterday and getting it painted tomorrow so been working on that all night. Thought you guys might like to see its transition.

How I picked it up, it hit a pole, so the crash bar was bent and the entire bumper looked like a W with a couple chunks missing.

Crash bar removed.

Huge missing chunk, 6" x 3" pretty much

Plastic welded, did it in two pieces to get the body lines.

Quick spray to see what needs to be more filled and what needed to be shaved more, and thats how she sits right now. Going to wake up in a couple hours and continue sanding/filling

X2 or at least very cheap, would suck to put all that effort into something and have to paint it as well if you paid a lot for it. All in all great work though!!

There's a local plastic store in Seattle called Taps Plastics that I bought pure ABS sheets in 3/32" thickness that I cut up to patch the holes. A buddy if mine that works in the auto paint industry that painted my previous pearl white s4 front is painting it for me and the car colors Y1T aka melange. I wish I was filling the filler plate but I don't have the proper abs plastic sheet or a filler plate to do so :(

I thought you might have bought that red S4 bumper that was on Craigslist, but this one seems a little worse. But good job.

No Jordan picked that up (thatA4)

@Needing: I wish, I sold those off a while ago, but made a crap ton of money off of them so I can't complain. Need to source some S4 skirts and lower door mouldings now to tie everything together. The bumper and fender just got painted and waiting on it to dry so I can wet sand and polish then let them sit over night and package them up to ship out tomorrow when I fly back to denver.

the bumper is the easy part, the tricky part is finding one that has not been modded and has all the grills.

So my friend who painted this for me, painted this in WA while the car was in CO, looked at pictures of my car on a color calibrated screen (he hobbies as a photographer, and I freelance as a photographer so we both have the eye for color and the proper monitors calibrated) but he looked at pictures to color match my car and it came out perfect. Props to him

it is quite nice, I usually just buy him lunch while we're working and do all the prep work and he mixes the paint for free and shoots it for free. Works at a Sherwin Williams Automotive paint place

I'm attempting the same thing right now with an S4 bumper I got last year that had been damaged. How do you "weld" plastic? I was going to epoxy some abs plastic underneath the holes and behind the cracks to strengthen it and then use the 3M plastic repair kit to fill in the holes and smooth them over with sand paper.

BTW: You did a great job on your project! It looks awesome. I hope mine turns out like that.

good writeup regarding plastic welding.

Basically you buy pure abs plastic or take the washer caps and cut them up to use them as filler for the plastic and use a soldering gun

but here's the writeup
