View Full Version : tie rod

i recently went in for an alignment and was told they couldnt perform because there was a faulty inner tie rod. my car was inspected last week and they noted some "slippage" but that it was nothing to worry about.

yesterday i was told that if the part in question was an OUTER tie rod i would need only one, but because it was an INNER tie rod i would need two seperate parts (inner tie rod and l. inner tie rod; each 179.99 plus 60 bucks labor)

my question(s) is wide and ill defined, as i know little about tie rods. am i being set up here? do i in fact need two parts? ive been noticing a little bit of a rough ride (i just bought new tires and they were balanced), can this be due to the loose tie rod? what other symptoms would/could there be? handling problems? increased and uneven tire wear? is 179.99 x2 too much to pay for parts?

please help i feel since my warranty expired, ive been nickel and dime-ing stuff all over the place.

Take it to another alignment shop and see what they say.
