i know they're one of the many black coils.

if not which ones are, thanks.

A coil pack is just a coil pack, no such thing as a "CA Emissions" coil pack.

The coils you linked to are what are sometimes called the "cali coils". They are made by Bosch and are believed to have the hottest spark available in an OEM coil. The only issue is the plastic housing tends to crack if they have any side load applied.

I went with the Red FSI coils for my car, but my brother went with the black cali coils. The black ones do give an extremely powerful spark. Very, very noticeably hotter than a new Hitachi "E" coil pack. We tested by lifting the coil pack off the plug to see how far the spark would jump. The Hitachi pack would "snap, snap, snap" whilst the Bosch pack was more like BANG, BANG, BANG. You could physically feel the Bosch pack vibrate your hand as it discharged. The difference was dramatic.

The cheapest place to score the Bosch packs is genuineaudiparts.com. I think they were about $16 each.

is that it? sucks it doesnt have the proper pic, and that i cant see the part# from intergrated picture

Keith, post up PNs por favor. Too lazy to search, and you just convinced me to do the conversion. Even though I have 3 prong plugs I should see better combustion, going by your description. Hopefully a little more pep and better gas consumption.

The one listed for $17.86/unit on that website from the link? Black TSI coils?

You guys should check out the FSI/TSI coilpack upgrade thread for the latest opinions of the masses.

Last I knew, there were 2 popular options:

06E905115E - Red FSI coils with metal tubes - $15.62 at GAP
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/06e905115e/ES281014/
I believe these are made by BERU in Italy or Turkey
Black version is 07K905715F
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/ES260102/ES260102/

06H905115B - Black TSI coils, aka "06H" coils, aka "cali coils" - $17.86 at GAP
http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/06H905115/ES2216600/
I believe these are made by Bosch in Germany and are capable of even higher output voltage

Only problem is the 06H coils are more probe to cracking than the red FSI coils

Oh, that's no bueno. Did people figure out the reason why?

Mostly due to certain coil pack adapters not holding them precisely straight. The INA adapters tend to put a small amount of side load on the coils. The FSI coils are fine with this. The Bosch coils, not so much. There are a few solutions. You can lower the rubber bushing piece (slide it down the coil) or you can drill out the mounting holes in the adapters (ie: add some slop to the holes) so they allow the coil to sit perfectly straight. All of these methods and more are discussed in detail within the FSI/TSI upgrade threads.

Do you know if this issue exists with the Integrated Engineering adapters?

I haven't heard anything about the IE adapters, but your best bet is to check the thread that INA made about these.
