I might have come across an AMAZING deal through a fraternity brother for an 01 B5 Avant that needs a new motor. Where do you guys source your used motors and how much do they usually cost?

Im in need of an AWM Automatic motor (i will rebuild the car and give it to my sister for her first car, or swap all my stuff over including the AEB motor to the 01 from my 99 avant and give her my 99 instead, but its one of the two haha :p)

not trying to get a massive headache of the 2.7T. Plus If I go that route, Im keeping both avants and my sister definitely needs a first car haha

I just figured it was relatively cheap and nearby.

I'd ask in the regional forum as well.

Any local junk yard. I'm in minnesota and I mostly go to a place called U Pull R Parts.

Bringing this back up, officially bought the 01 Avant with a bad motor. Looking at sourcing a used AWM Automatic, if anyone has suggestions or a specific place for me to buy one, please let me know!

Not sure what exactly is wrong with your engine, but if you can't find an AWM (that's pretty specific, just 1 model year), you can always include the B6 AMB engines as well, probably with less miles even. You will just have to swap all your AWM existing AWM accessories and other jazz over. Basically just use the long block.

This, if you're looking for any used part that you're too lazy to pull yourself check it out, they have everything.

Where I'm from there aren't any 'pull your own' yards anymore. They're all automotive recyclers or worse: used parts warehouses. And they're all on car-part.

I envy you guys and your pick-a-parts.

^Yeah, I was gonna say: if by awesome you mean ridiculously overpriced, then yes...they are "awesome".

Guess its a good thing I never ordered anything from them. I just saw others have recommended them before.
