View Full Version : How much til I should hit limp?

Is limp mode changed with a chip? And does that vary between different chips? ie. X-chip / regular giac chip. I just put my boostvalve in, and hit limp at right around 18-19 psi. I have the valve set for 17 psi now. Is that a normal value to hit limp? I am really not sure if I have the x-chip or not, my car never really boosted correctly since I got chipped.

sort of confused. So your car is chipped and you're not hitting the popper levels of boost, so you installed a boost controller and cranked it up?? If that's the case, take out the boost controller and diagnose the boosting problem.

The problem is/was my N75 valve, at least that's what I beleive. I was just wondering if 18 psi causes limp mode for any type of chip installed in the car.

fix your problem (replace the n75) first before you add a MBC to the mix.

Actually, I think I am going to try to take the N75 out (hose wise, electrical still plugged in) and just run the boostvalve. I don't see a need for the N75 to still be there. If that doesn't work, oh well.

What was the boost doing exactly with just the chip/N75 valve installed?

i am running with the giac x-chip and ecs n75 valve and boost peaks at 19 psi and doesnt go into limp mode

xchip should hit 18-20psi but that depends on the gear and the conditions you live in.

My guess is that he either has a boost leak or doesn't have a GIAC xchip, more of a standard 1.0-1.1 bar chip. This means once he increases the boost too much over the requested boost it will go into limp. Best thing he can do is pull the ecu out, open it up and see what chip is actually in there.

Removing the N75 totally isn't going to solve anything. Get to the root of the problem, don't just try to cover it up with a boost controller.

I'll fix it but if you do that again, you'll suffer greatly.[;)]

is your car fixed yet?

[mad] Now you are just trying to make me mad.

Have had no initiative to fix it yet.

WIth just the N75 in, I would spike at 13-14 and hold at like 11. When I put the J valve in, it would spike to 18 then limp.

I will probably call tomorrow to see what program the guy gave me, then maybe switch to the x-chip if it's not.

Either way, I shouldn't be spiking at 13 psi unless it's less than 1bar chip. My car was tested for leaks, none present.

Have you tried seeint what the requested/actual boost levels are with a vag?

No, I don't have a vag. Nobody around me has a working one last time I asked. I am going to call the GIAC dealer tomorrow and see what's up. I hit limp over and over today at 16 psi. Requested boost is probably a lot higher than what I am getting.

I'll try to get my hands on a vag-com from someone around here and log that.

by chance do you know what your vac readings on your boost gauge is at idle and when you let off the throttle in the mid-high rpm?

Oh and what GIAC dealer are you dealing with?

Yes; 20 in-hg idle, 22 in-hg when let off throttle. I am dealing with Mike Shimon at vastperformance in Rochester, MI.

My chip is 018M01A.08a. I still have no idea what this problem is from. If the turbo wastegate was failing, do these sound like the symptoms? I thought that I wouldn't have any boost at all, but was told it was the wastegate.

Is it possible for the N75 to leak? That would make sense that the pressure test showed no leaks, but when the N75 is doing it's cycle it could leak?
