2001 A6 allroad wagon.
stock security system
Hi everyone,
I had above mentioned car for three years. When I bought this car, rear passenger window switches did not work so rear passengers had to ask me or a driver to lower or raise the rear windows. Also window childlock didn't work when I bought this car.
About three ago, all four windows in my car stopped working. There aren't any responses to any window buttons in this car.
Coincidently, instrument panel's door ajar indication stopped working at around same time and suddenly began to work again recently.
When I go out, I have to carry two German shepherds with me in this car and they just stinks. Fortunately the sun roof works but I really have to get the windows working again.
I had factory stock car alarm system going off in the middle of night out without any reasons and number 14 fuse kept blowing up. Now these windows!
How can I fix this?

Any rain lately? Check for water under the passenger carpet. If your battery or sunroof drains are clogged they funnel inside and the CCM is under there.

Thanks! It had been rainining around the time things went out of order.
Where are the portions of the battery and sunroof drains closest to the CCM?
What is CCM?

CCM is Comfort Control Module. Used to control interior settings such as windows, AC....
Ex. you flash this to program the remote to roll windows up and down without needed to put it in the lock cylinder.
Check if it got wet, could be a cause. Otherwise check fuses, and switches. I'd say check motors of the 4 doors, but the chance all 4 of them went at the same time is unlikely.
To test, either use a multimeter or toggle the switch back and forth a buncha times. If you feel the motor afterwards and its relly hot, its a good sign its gone bad.
A new motor or switch cluter from a used source or a scraped car would cost around <$10 a piece. Not sure about the CCM however.

trolling... but check for broken wires in your drivers door. the drivers door module is the lin master and when that loses communication it takes out the other 3.

I have the same setup and same problem. Try and press your drivers window switch lock the same time your passengers are trying to use the windows. Mine has a lose connection. Might need a new driver window lock switch.

Thank you guys, will try your methods out.
BTW, don't have the manual. Where in the car can I find this CCM module?
Ah! under the driver's side carpet!

Pretty much. Or if you don't care about the window lock control, open it up and remove the springs (that way it stays down).
There's a small plastic piece (about half the size of a grain of rice) that the little arm in the button latches onto when you press it down, that piece likely snapped off resulting in it not being able to stay down.
This is responsible for the initial problem @ cyrusyn, not the current issue.

Thank you guys, checked for the water leaks. No signs of water leaks any where in the cabin including the driver's seat area.
Unhooked the black two wire connector under the driver's seat and the number 14 fuse still blows up every time I put 10 amp fuse. Ran out of 20 amp fuses and can't open up the sunroof now.
Can pulling obd2 codes reveal any problems with the central locking module or CCM?

Yes, right down to what switches it doesn't see. And if you can't pull codes from it then it's broken...

check the wires in between the door where it opens and closes.... I had the same problem and all my windows stop working .....there are about 4 thin wires that break from constant bending....it caused me a bunch of electrical woes.... reconnect the wires and things will magically go back to normal.....good luck

Thank you very much. Now I have to find where I could borrow an OBD2 reader in San Francisco area.

Thank you very much. Do I have to take off the door trim to see this or brake the rubber boot that encases all the wires?

pull back rubber boot unplug it from the door pillar and check wires ....... if the wires are broken you can reconnect the wires or change the entire harness ......http://forums.audiworld.com/showthread.php?t=2379267
