View Full Version : It lives!

After many hours of work abused and battered hands [wrench], another A4 lives again. I finally finished getting the head put on and it fired on the first start. I must admit, I've never driven a German car before, but I love it.

It's a little abused, but my $500 '98 A4 1.8TQ Tip (with only 71k miles), aluminum silver with black onyx leatherette interior is alive! [race]

Pictures coming soon...

The original owner was on a cross county trip and the timing belt went. She took it to a service station in Kentucky who could not fix it and the nearest Audi dealership said the whole engine needed replaced (supposedly they would not sell just the head). So, she posted it in an online classified for $500 (she just wanted to get rid of it so she could be on her way). I saw the ad and drove from Columbus, OH to KY to fetch it. So, all in all with replacing all 20 valves, new timing parts, and various other bolts and pieces, I have about $2,000 total in it (including the price of the car).

Since it has a couple of dents and a few scratches, it's going to get a sapphire blue (either metallic or pearl) paint job. Nothing major as far as mods go, but we are thinking about a K04, chip, and supporting mods. Tip is the biggest limitation, plus the Talon is for going fast.

Thats cool man. I have a 96 2.8QM that is smashed up I think I am gonna part out and buy a Talon TSI to be my commuter car for work. You can pick them up pretty cheap around here if your will to put a lil work into them. I've seen a few go for somewhere between$1000-$1500.

I have a 1996 Talon TSi and a 1990 Talon TSi AWD (another $500 timing belt special). They are considerably quicker then the A4, but the build quality is no comparison.
