View Full Version : DIY painted lowers question

I was thinking of doing this myself next week. But first, I wanted to how are your painted lowers holding up?

If you could, please say if it was done professionally or not, how long have you had it, and how's the paint holding up.

Thanks in advance.

I'm doin mine next week, but I live in Arizona, and it never rains or snows here so I'm sure they will be fine. If your drivin in the snow, might be a different story.

You are going to need to buy a certain chemical to put on the rubber prior to painting. This chemical will open up the pores on the rubber to absorb the paint alot better and to with stand time and abuse.

If you can hold off, I can get you then name of this chemical to use, my buddy put it on mine and they haven’t peeled or chipped on over 4 months.

its just an adhesive promoter...if you paint the soft lower door trim you'll need to use a flex additive though.

Painted mine almost a year ago and is holding up fine. I'm in NJ. Painted my grills too though they have chipped alot due to all the highway driving I do.

I just did mine myself tonight and they are holding up great so far! [:D]

I used a plastic adhesion promoter from autozone as my primer then 4 coats color and 4 clear coats!

It looks soo much better than the black already!!
I can't wait to do the front and rear valences tomorrow!

i painted mine last summer, and they've been holding up great. if you do it right, there should be no problem.

Even if it starts to chip a bit, I can always do it again...better than driving around with black plastic pieces down there IMHO
