Ok so my wife and I found out we are going to be parents! Currently she drives a 05 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and we are going to sell it. She has her heart set on a Ibis White A4 Avant and I have only seen a few of these up for sale on line. I am not so sure what price I should expect to pay for one of these. I figured you guys here could shed some light on this subject. I checked KBB and its all over the place for price. I did find an 08 in Vegas with 37k miles and they are asking $21,999.00 non CPO. does that seem right??

Yes, that sounds about right. I paid more for my '07 Ibis Ti Avant with 26k miles on it. Congrats on upcoming baby (and new car)!

Btw, a co-worker suggests to borrow an infant car seat with base with you when you go car shopping. Make sure that when that baby seat is in place, you still have enough legroom when the front seats are adjusted to not hit the top edge of car seat. He told me that he is upgrading from his Benz C-class to and E-class because he is expecting his 2nd child and if you both are tall parents, this may play a factor in your vehicle choice. He does say that the A4 Avant should be fine for car seats though- just something to think about. Buy the "Baby Bargains" book for consumer reports style ratings on all baby goods.

Thanks! Funny you say that my buddy has a 9month old and told me borrow his seat and do the same thing for test fit. I figured that price was decent I just really want one cpo. I have a S4 and cpo is the only way to go on them. Is it the same with the A4? Do they have as many issues as the S4 does?

I drive around with a big carseat all the time in an '06 Avant and there's plenty of room. But it's good advice in general to bring a car seat for test drives. I wouldn't have even thought of that before I had a kid.

My a4 was not cpo'd so I had it checked out at a local, independent European repair shop before buying the car, then purchased an aftermarket warranty bc my previous b6 s4 avant's extended warranty definately paid for itself.

All over the map, IMO/IME. These can be hard to find, and the demand for them is equally limited. If the seller/dealer is into moving product out the door, you can generally find a great deal. However, if he's familiar with what he's got, and is patient enough to wait for people like you and me to knock on the door, the price is much higher. I negotiated like a stubborn dog on my car, and then less than a month later I saw a darn-near identical one at another dealer....with an advertised price of what I paid for mine. Argh.

Congratulations on the growing family, and good luck with the hunt.

I was talking to the Audi dealership here and the GM was telling me he can get the car from the dealership in Vegas and cpo it for me. I am thinking they will prob jack the price up really high if I have them do that so I am not sure if I should have them do it or not. Prob be worth it but I would have to grid on the price for a while with them. Funny I told my wife how hard it was to find one of these in white, she laughed and said if she has to she will wait as long as it takes to get one. I never though that I would get her to like Audi's as much as I do but I guess I was wrong.

I'm 6' 3" and I can fit, but not at all comfortably with a carseat behing me. My wife is average height, 5' 6" and thinks it's to cramped for her as well, so we don't take the A4 as a family [:(]

Just me and the boy. [race]

*Edit. I don't have an Avant. Sad about that too. Ibsis Avant is tits. Specially if it's Ti, 6MT.

I have seen Avants in Canada range from 17,900 to 29,000 [eek]

Mine was 21,900 i think initially and I got it signed at 19,200. I know you guys usually get s-line with all options for that. I hate the Canadian car market, but I payed so little in taxes here! muahah.

I am only 5' 9" and the wife is 5' 4". we have had my buddys car seat in my S4 and it fit rather well. She just want sthe extra space in the back for strollers and luggage as well for when we road trip. I wish we could do the 6MT but she i just not that comfortable with it. I have been teaching her on mine and I heard the A4 would be a bit diff than the S4. is there any truth to this??

The one I found was S-Line for 21,999.

Nice! Good luck if you pursue that route. I'm not sure any brand does CPO better than Audi. Captain Obvious here...but along with price, check the in-service date to make sure the investment is truly worth it.

Probably not enough different to make a difference. If anything the A4 will be harder as the S4 doesn't have the massive power void under 2k rpms that the turbo engines do, meaning you need to think ahead a bit more about what gear you need to be in when driving. Having said that, once you get used to driving a stick it becomes second nature and you learn to do that stuff without thinking. I would push her to learn a stick. My GF loves driving my manual A4, but she also loves the convenience of her tiptroic Avant. I think we'll be a manual/auto family for a while.

As far as CPO. You'll pay 10-20% more for the car with CPO than without. Is the peace of mind worth that much to you? For some people it is. For me it isn't. I actually enjoy wrenching on my cars so neither of my cars are CPO. Having said that my B7 WOULD have been a CPO but it was 5k miles over the cutoff for the warranty so the dealer couldn't certify it. So at least I knew it was in great shape. One year, 4 months later, I've spent $106 total on maintenance, including one oil change ($35), an N80 replacement ($25), and a new Thermostat ($46). This is all DIY of course. The Thermostat replacement ALONE would have cost me $700 at the dealer. Took me 3 hours total with simple hand tools.

If you are unwilling/unable to do DIY repairs I think a CPO warranty would be a good idea. Especially with a tiptronic as they have some rare, but serious Torque Converter failure issues that cost over $2k for a replacement.

That car sounds like a decent deal though. I would go for it.
