Hi,
Recently had my clutch go out at 95k. I had it repaired and they did a great job, however I am wondering about the cost of parts.
**I could be completely wrong here**, but it looks like they put OEM VW/AUDI part #s and actually used LUK replacement parts (which I'm sure are good quality). The issue is it looks like they charged me the OEM VW prices when the LUK replacements are a good bit cheaper.

PART # 06C 198 141D - CLUTCH KIT (OEM LUK) $475
PART # 06D 105 266C - FLYWHEEL (OEM LUK) $660
Did I get a bad deal here, or am I just misinterpreting this invoice? Is it standard for shops to make such a big markup on parts?
I blocked out the name of the place, but they had a tun of very good reviews and work on only VW and Audi.
Thnx

You could have gotten the same clutch for 250 and the flywheel for 550 and saved yourself around $330.

It sucks, and i'm sorry you didn't ask what to do before you had this done. There is absolutely no reason to ever replace your clutch with a stock clutch. There is also absolutely no reason you should have had to replace the flywheel. You got raped no matter what you got installed.
I paid under $450 for a stage 3 clutch, and resurfaced the stock flywheel for $75.

LUK makes the factory clutch and flywheel. Even if you were to order the part from a dealer directly, you would get the same LUK clutch and flywheel, except in an Audi box. [up]
Regarding the price for the parts; it depends from shop to shop. Every repair facility has some sort of markup on parts, and often times, their cost on the parts is higher than retail pricing charged by online retailers.
Also, it looks like you were charged for book time, not actual time for the job. Most competent Audi techs can do the job in 4-5 hours.

Regardless, in this situation, aftermarket is always better and cheaper.

I was told the dual mass flywheel cannot be resurfaced.. was that bs as well? I usually do most repairs myself, but I figured the clutch was a big job so I brought it in..
Can anyone recommend a different shop in Florida? I'm willing to travel a bit for a good quality place..
Next up is timing belt (which I know I can do on my own, I'm just not sure if I want to risk doing something so sensitive)

It definitely can be done! Not everyone can do it, as there is a steel surface and an aluminum surface that both must be resurfaced. Takes a specialty shop, and a lot of people must ship their flywheel out. I was lucky enough that my shop found a local place that could do it. A stock dmfw really is like $700 and I really did only pay $75 to have it resurfaced.
You got hosed. Either the shop was trying to milk the most out of you, they really are uninformed, or they were just too lazy to take care of your needs to their best ability.

Duel-mass flywheels can be resurfaced as stated above, but they are still-failure-prone, often falling apart before the second clutch would actually need replacement.
This is why some shops will replace them, or recommend upgrading to a lightweight single-mass unit, like ours. [up]
In the future, I'd definitely recommend getting a complete quote in advance and shopping around before agreeing to the work. You could have gotten a far superior 034Motorsport B7 Audi A4 2.0T FSI Clutch Package with Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel (http://www.034motorsport.com/clutches-flywheels-034motorsport-clutch-flywheel-packages-b7-audi-a4-20t-fsi-spec-clutch-package-wflywheel-p-19874.html) installed here for a substantially lower parts cost, and saved a few hours of labor, too. so since these spec clutches are 240mm does that mean the 240mm b5 s4/rs4 clutch would work in a B7? ive looked into this but it doesnt seem that many people have gone that route with the b7s.

Yeah, $660 for a flywheel that could have been resurfaced for $30.00.

No, since the stack height is different between the CQ 240mm clutch kit that our flywheel is intended for, and the S4/RS4 240mm clutch kits.
We decided to engineer our flywheel around the CQ 240mm kit because it is much more affordable, and has a ton of holding capacity. We used to run a SPEC CQ 240mm clutch kit on our Time Attack A4 back when it was still a VR6T. [up]

2K for a clutch job?! You got raped....9 hours is especially excessive, as previously mentioned, most places should normally charge for 4-5 hours. I'd recommend going elsewhere for your TB+WP change..

9 hours. that's what i did it in, and it was a 1 man job with no previous experience.
for UNDER $2k I ended up with an upgraded clutch, 034 flywheel, Apikol rear diff mount, JHM 4:1 center differential, JHM short shifter, bushing, and shift linkage!
You got an OEM clutch and flywheel. And looking at genuine vw audi parts, they sell the flywheel for $900, so you at least got a better price than Audi pricing on the flywheel.
