Hey everyone,
After looking around on the forum for an answer to address my specific question, I couldn't find anything so I've decided to start a new thread.
I decided to upgrade from the Symphony II Plus head unit (without Bose) to the RNS-E navigation unit and I understand that no adapter is needed to make it work because the wiring harness is the same other than a slight mod by moving the K-line wire from connection C7 to B5. My concern is that I have a Dice Electronics iPod integration kit currently installed. If I move the K-line from C7 to the B5 equivalent on the Dice connector, will the modification to properly operate the RNS-E and the iPod adapter still work properly, or could I encounter issues? I do not know if the B5 connection is open/free, but lets assume that it is.
And since I'm already on the topic of the RNS-E:
1. For directions to be displayed on the DIS, does the DIS have to be the color screen, or does the simple red LCD also give direction read-outs? My car has the red LCD and have no idea if it can actually display directions. I thought that was a function only the color DIS can handle.
2. Do the radio code retrieval CD's you find on eBay actually work? I got my RNS-E unit from an auto dismantler but no code was provided and the serial# that is supposed to be engraved on the metal casing on the side of the unit is not present. Is there another way of retrieving the code using a VAGCOM or some other method? If I presented the receipt for the unit to an Audi dealer that supplies the original VIN number, would they be able to assist me? I know that its luck of the draw if a dealer will help because of the whole anti-theft thing. If they do help, about how much would they charge roughly to have the radio reset and programmed if I already have the unit removed from the dash?
3. Other than the DIS functionality with the RNS-E unit, is there anything else that needs to be coded for full functionality?
Sorry for all the questions in one place and if they belong somewhere else on the forum. I am a total newb with all of this. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. If there is any information that is missing that you may need in order to answer any of the questions, let me know and I will try to provide as much information as I can. Thanks!
