So I have a slight dilemma I just swapped an AEB engine into my atw a4 and everything is good besides the coil packs from my atw seem too long for the AEB head now do I. Need the AEB coil packs and will they plug right into my harness that I have now or do I need to splice an AEB harness into mine? Thanks and besides SAI Which I already deleted everything anything else I need to change?

The ATW CPs should be a direct fit. I wouldn't downgrade to a AEB hairness with ICM...

Have your retained the ATW valve cover?

Oh, this is a known issue. You just need to trim a small section of the rubber with a box cutter. It takes like 10 seconds per coil to do it.

The coils need to go with the harness. They are not interchangeable without modification to the wiring.

Therefore, if you are using the ATW engine harness stick with ATW coils. If you want to use your ATW coils on your AEB harness then you need to change the connectors and delete the ICMS.

Is this a valve cover fitment issue? Never heard of this.

Not on my ATW with a AEB head and I have ran a ATW/AEB/AWM valve cover with not a single fitment issue with the ATW Hitachi and Beru coils.

i have the same setup as above, no problems.

Indeed, the AEB/Hitachi fitment issue seems to be "intermittent". For most people, they bolt right in. For some people, there is a clearance issue that has to do with the diameter of the coil pack tube interfering with the spark plug tube. NOT a valve cover issue, but a PLUG TUBE issue. A very minor amount of trimming takes care of the issue. I'm not sure if this is a slightly design revision of the Hitachi coil pack tube, or differences amongst the production of AEB heads. But for some reason there is a clearance issue that only some people come across.

Here is a photo of the rubber section that is too wide (diameter is very slightly too large):

You can either do what that guy did, and sand them down a bit, or do what I did and just cut that section of rubber right off the coil. The rubber is only about 1/8" thick, behind which is the metal tube. I scored a full circle around the diameter of the coil pack below the fat section (directly at the LEFT edge of the RIGHT piece of blue tape - all the way around) with a box cutter. Then I made 1 vertical cut upwards and just peeled off that piece of rubber. Took like 10 seconds per coil pack. I did put piece of electrical tape around the bare metal, but I don't think that's even necessary.

I think it has to be a issue with the head itself. Maybe the next time runs into that issue they can try and get a measurement of the spark plug hole that is in the head. The ATW coils I used were made about 7-8 years apart since 1 set was my original coils that were on my car when I bought it in 2000.

Just trimmed it worked perfect thanks guys...next question is AEB snub mount shorter the. Atw( don't think it would be since block is same but my snub isn't sitting in the bracket my car had an atw and I blew it up and put an AEB in just to clear things up

I don't think they are different, are you running an aftermarket snub or a OEM snub?

AEB and ATW should be the same, since they are both 058. The DBW later models are different. I've seen crazier things happen.

The brackets should be identical...
