View Full Version : Looks like I need a turbo...

... bearings are shot so there's shaft play and the blades are hitting the turbo housing when I get off the throttle making a metallic "zzzzzzzzzzz" sound.
I think for me, just finding a rebuilt K03 or having mine rebuilt is probably the most cost effective choice out there. Buddy has a K04 turbo that he believes is for a B6 1.8T, might need a rebuild but from what I gather from some past posts here, you just can't simply bolt this up to our engine:
- manifold won't seat properly to the head unless the exhaust flanges are trimmed and new holes drilled
- compress outlet/inlet are in different locations so custom hoses required
- K03 in the A4 has a DV incorporated into the turbo
Is my understanding correct about this?

Sux man. (Unless you were looking for an excuse to go K0R, in which case congrats!)
FYI, there's a used K03 with 35K miles on it (http://www.audizine.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=68407&title=oem-k03-turbo-w-2f-stock-injectors&cat=22)in the classifieds for $450.

thats more trouble than its worth for a k04-015. unless you want it to drive almost identical to the way it did.

Bahaha there is SO much hate for the K04 lately.
Mind you, with good reason.
I read more of your post because I just scanned it to begin with... You're planning on going BT already, my bad.
Just a word of advice, if you want something that will be able to go in a day - get the RAI-K0R.
Beating a dead horse, I know. I personally went ATP GT28RS stock mounting location kit. But for ease of install, with the same-ish power output nothing beats K0R.
Mine was... lets call it frustrating.

Thanks, I think I might look at getting my rebuilt here locally vs buying a used one.
Timing just sucks since I'm off for two weeks and won't be able to do anything perhaps, will have to see what the mechanic I go to can do for me while I'm away. I'm not going towards a bigger turbo or anything, just want to pay as little as possible to get this fixed as there's been an idea in my head of getting rid of this car and finding a used B8 S4.

If OP doesn't take you up on this, I'd be very interested. I'm @ 115,000+ and am getting 'strange' behavior from my turbo.... [=(]

Somebody should buy Glissoar's used k03 just because he deserves all the help he can get.
