I know there is currently another thread about this topic in the b7 a4 tech section but i cannot post in it, sorry I'm new here. Any help would be appreciated.
The problem I am having is on my 2006 A4 Quattro 2.0t, recently when filling up my low fuel level indicator will come on and my control panel will read a half tank, once i drive for a few miles the alarm will go off and the tank will show full. Then on occasions when i start the car the same thing will happen. I have been reading around and I think it is the fuel level sending unit. My question is on the Quattro, from the information i have gathered, there is two sending units? How would i know which one to replace, and where exactly are they located.
Thank you for any help.

the sending unit is under the rear passenger side seat and has a float for level on it. The transfer unit is under the rear driver side seat.
I think you want the rear passenger side seat. Also highly recommended to do it when the fuel is as low of a level as you can get it, I did mine around half full and is a pain.

Okay, thanks. I have been looking online for the unit itself and I cant seem to find the right one, is there any way you could link me to one? I seem some online but in the DIY thread they look totally different.
I really have no clue what I am doing I just really don't want to take it to the dealer and get screwed so I am going to attempt to do it myself if at all possible.

I just bought my b7 a month ago and had similar problems. After filling up the gauge would only show half tank and the low fuel like never goes off.
After googling my ass off, I figured it was my fuel level sensor which sits under the back seat on the drivers side.
I pulled up the seat, took the cover off and bingo! The sending unit/floater had broken off and was just laying in the bottom of the tank. Ordered a new new one from ecstuning.com for around $100.00 bucks. Replaced it, good as new!
The sender is made of plastic so it is very common for it to break. Very easy DIY job.

I just had the diagnostics done on my car and the dealership is saying is fuel level sending unit #2. They wanted $570 to replace it, and that was with the the $120 diagnostic charge. I wish I would have searched on her first. Is there a difference between the sending unit you guys are speaking of or is the sending unit #2 a different one? I just want to make sure I purchase the right one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the left one is defective and easy to check (see my DIY here:http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php/306327-DIY-Fuel-Level-Sensor-Sender-Replacement)
It will look like this
